New System Install

Well its been almost 2 weeks since my last mod so now the time has come to upgrade the stereo.

First I am having the car soundproofed with dynamat extreme, then putting a 4080 box in back with a JL 10w3v2. Then replacing the front separates with a set of DLS UP6, then swapping out the rear sides for DLS 426 coaxs. The system will run off a JL 500/5 all wired with JL wire as well as a bass control **** which will be concealed utilziing the Bose HU.

Install is scheduled for wednesday which should give me my car back by Thursday...can't wait pics to come

Only recommendation I would make is go for a 10w6v2 with a 500/1 running it, and a 300/4 for the other channels. Thats if you can afford (both trunk space lost and money wise) two amps.

Other wise, I've had great experience with all JL products I have owned.

Have you heard both the 10W3v2 and 10W6v2 in the G35 with JL amps? Any comments on how they differ in sound?

I was originally going to go with the 10W6v2 and 500/1, but opted to go with the 250/1 since I can hide it in the spare tire, and therefore went down to a 10w3v2 for power reasons.

Regarding the original poster, that setup is basically exactly what I had decided on doing, and would have if I could have hidden the 500/1 amp reasonably.

Is there a reason why you're choosing JL amps over Zapco?

Caelric-
The goal for this system is to have a nice sounding upgraded sound system. I do not want a bassy system so their is no need for a W6 pushing 500 watts. I do have the $$ just dont want that type of bass.

Mechee-
I have not heard the difference between the W3 and the W6 but have heard W6 and I just dont need that trunk rattling power.

Basheer-
The system with installation will come in right under 3k.

MikeyMike-
The reason I went with JL is since I have had them in my past 3 vehicles and have been very happy with them

P.S. the 500/5 (and thus any other amp of same or smaller dimensions) will fit in the stock amp location with a little modding and TLC.

I still recommend the 500 and the 10w6v2, in order to have the headroom for the hard bass notes in some songs. I'm not talking about rap; thats far from what I listen to. Mostly hard rock, and a lot of 80's and 90's stuff. I don't have the bass turned up at all, but what bass there is is very "tight" for lack of a better word.

I would recommend upgrading your hedunit aswell. you are already spending 3000 so why not spend the extra 300 for a good headunit. it will send a cleaner and more powerful signal to all your speakers. you will be much happier with the sound quality and will bring all of your speaker upgrades to fuller potential. just my 2 cents.

I do not wnat to lose some of the integrated features like Bluetooth and steering controls...I also liek the stock look. Also you can do some reading and you will see that the Bose HU are pretty flat so its not that bad of a unit to use opposed to some of the other stock HU's out there

You can get very good sound with the stock head unit. Trust me on this, or at least trust el_duderino, a professional installer who posts here often.

I like the stock look and the stock steering wheel controls. With a good LOC, or a good amp that takes high level inputs, the stock head unit sounds great.

to each their own, understandable reason for keeping the stock head unit. i've heard lots of people saying that they dont' like the stock unit and others say they love it. from my own experiences, an aftermarket head unit seems to make a difference. but your call buddy.

I dont think its a question of if the aftermarket part is better or not...(they are of course)...Its more about keeping the stock look. The stock hu isnt terrible...it just suffers from a poor amp thats all. To keep the same features you'd have to get the dd kit, swi-x at the least and then a af hu on top of that. Some people believe the difference in quality isnt worth the extra $$ (ie me =))

In our G's there are quite a few other ways to more effectively increase your SQ other than changing your HU. Changing the HU is just the classic answer... it doesn't mean it's the best answer.

- Replacing front speakers with quality components
- Effective sound deadening
- Proper amp tuning

to name a few.

That's not to say that there aren't GOOD reasons for replacing the HU (GPS capabilities, mp3 capabilities if you have a 03 or 04, video, etc). But sound quality, unless you are trying to build a competition level system, is not one of them.

Not in the 2006. We have a few more boxes mounted on top of the Bose amp. :\
