Pics of my Kenwood DDX-8017 - not 56k friendly

Hey wats up guys I decided to just throw in some pics of my new headunit. This was installed by your very own grider, thanks dood. Just be careful when you go down there because if he takes you for a spin in his car, you may come out a little lightheaded.. lol jk bro. Drive safely

stock form.. boring and ugly

this was a little bit scary.. he pulled out all the plugs in a matter of minutes. It made me wonder if he was gonna remember which plug goes with what.. lol but he had no problem.

and here for the final pics:

The headunit is pretty awesome, i like the way it works. However, there are a couple of features that are kind of annoying. So if you have this headunit, please chime in on this thread because I have a lot of questions on a few features.. mainly watching the DVD. Also, my remote controller was defective (so i think) so i'm currently waiting for a replacement from the store. All in all, i'm pretty satisfied with this unit. So does anyone here have this headunit too? Perhaps you can give me a hand.

Clean...

So you've got the stock navigation, just for navi and whatever else...and you've got the kenwood screen for mp3's, DVD's, Ipod, etc?

Do you have the stock navi to relay images from the kenwood?

thats correct. No i dont have the stock navi to relay images fromt he kenwood.. although that seems kinda cool i figured its not worth the extra expenses.. cuz i'd ahve to go and get something like the avelectronics unit right? I may do that in the future but i dont really find a need to.

paranormal u have the same unit right? Well let me tell u my situation.. when u first initially put in the dvd, does the dvd menus work for you on the touch screen? They dont for me. I'd have to like press the function button, then hold the screen for a couple seconds b4 the "highlight on" mode turns on and then i can select the menus on the dvd by touching the screen. Its ilke the touchscreen disables during the dvd mode. I can switch back to radio and it works fine. I wish my remote work but it doesnt right now.

I have the 7017 - the more I have it, the more I'm liking it. I'll check tomorrow as far as the DVD problem that you note above. Can't quite see from the pictures - did you skip the trim ring?

yes, you are correct in that you have 2 options in order to select dvd menu selections- you either use the touchscreen to bring up the menu control screen (then use the highlight function) or alternatively you can use your remote. your unit is working the way it is designed- admittedly a bit non-intuitive with that one function.

did you get the the PAC ALP to retain full steering wheel control and hook it up to your steering remote control input of the ddx?

thanks so much for your reply, that was very helpful. So the only way to only use the highlight function is to disable the remote all together?

and yes i did get the pac unit but i have not gotten it to work yet. It is halfway connected (about 90%) the only thing missing is the power wire which we couldnt figure out at the time. Could that be a problem why the remote doesnt work?
