Nuvi 350 hardwiring

Okay, I'm really happy with my Nuvi 350 - to the point that I want to hard-wire it into my car. So I contact Garmin to see if they have an appropriate cable. Their response is that hard wiring it would void my warrenty. Huh? Any way, the connector is a fairly standard mini usb. The car adapter outputs 4.5V, while the power outlet is 12v. What would be the best way to drop this 12v down to 4.5 - 5v?

Thanks!

Can you post pics of where you have it installed?

I don't have an answer on the wiring, but here is a thread where someone has given up trying.

here is an easy way to do it. Buy the adaptor from the link and wire it to 12 volt switched and ground. then you can keep the factor garmin plug in one piece and just plug it into the new socket and hide it behind the radio, under the dash or wherever.

I think it is time to go the hidden socket route as well. Now to go and find an addl 12v garmin cord.

Thanks for the input!
