Connecting Laptop into Nav
Re: Connecting Laptop into Nav
can't wait to see the setup ted.. I was considering the same thing as my laptop has all the stuff.. but its a little uncomfortable with it up front.. be much easier having the screen hooked up to replicator then just have laptop in replicator and use it through that.. seems like it would be very clean..
just a quick question.. do you have aftermarket stereo or something? not really grasping how you weere gonna hook up the audio from laptop to the car..

Re: Connecting Laptop into Nav
I have installed the AV electronics NAV/Tuner...that has 3 A/V inputs (in addition to the NAV hack)
I will use one of the Audios to bring the laptop sound to the factory stereo... we will use a a/v switcher to allow the rear screens (when installed) to continue receiving audio for their video sources (via headphones)

Ceiling mounted docking station?
I agree, it seems like a waste of a good LCD screen by mounting the docking station in the trunk. Why not continue with your current set up but mount the docking station in the ceiling? That way you have just added a 15 inch drop down LCD to your setup at no extra cost. I know ATI's catalyst control driver allows you to flip your display screen upside-down. I guess the only problem is space considering you have a sun-roof and the wiring might prove to be an issue. I might persue this in the future as i don't have a sun-roof so there's plenty of room up there. I'd also run a video feed from a rear facing camera into one of the Xenarc video inputs, that way i can see behind me when the screen is down. Any thoughts?
Also, i would suggest runing a USB cable from your docking station to a USB hub somewhere in the car for future expansion, thumb drives, bluetooth, etc.

yeah, i know. i did a search and this was the only thread that had mentioned a ceiling mounted docking station. i'll start my own thread once i get more serious about installing a laptop in the ceiling of my g. you never know, maybe SoCalTed will post an update. just cause a thread is old doesn't mean the information is irrelevant.
