Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone has hooked up an i-pod to their car...i've used an FM transmiter in my current car (still waiting for my G) and the songs sound terrible...i've heard someone had hooked it up using their nav-tv mod...but just wondering if there are any other ways...
Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
The nav-tv mod uses FM modulation. As of now there isn't a solution for using the Satellite in for auxillary audio, but, we are working on it. Visit the audio forum for aux in using satellite harness thread.
Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
I am currently trying to figure this one out. My friend just bought one and he figured out how to hook it up to the CD changer Audio connects in the back of his 02' Audi A4. As we have a changer already that will not work. Hoever if I can locate some schematics I want to figure out how to connect line level audio to either the XM radio connects or the NAV connects since I don't have them. I'll post if I do figure it out. Peace.

Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
ohhhhh look what I found! I think this may work for us!
http://www3.telus.net/cornblatt/aux_in.htm
This adapter is intended for the OEM "AUX" connector on the back of many Nissan radios. The OEM connector was intended for an OEM Nissan changer. What I noticed is that the connector looks exactly the same is the OEM XM SAT connector on the back of the Radio unit from the Murano. This unit is supposedly the same one we have. So I gather we could purchase this adapter and then connect it via the SAT Auxilary input. Of course that may not work if you actually have the SAT radio harness installed but I know of very few people that do and bet most would prefer to be able to use there own MP3 players instead. I think I'll send and email to this guy and see if he thinks it'll work. The pic of the back of the Murano Radio unit is below along with a pic of the "adapter" plug the guy is making. There is also a link to his site above. I'll post again if I find anything else. Peace.

Hmmm... That box looks like it would fit exactly in the center console storage tray below the radio. Don't know if the door would still close but maybe......

went ahead and fixed that Jason...
As far as the FM modulators, i've heard only negative things about them. Especially if you live in a large city with tons of FM radio stations.
Jason, too bad that thing is discontinued, it really did look sweet!

Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
You would think that manufacturers would start building inputs for iPod connections. I have the Sony tape deck attachment. It sounds OK and probably better than the FM adapter but it's a far cry from what it could be.

Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
Well, they have the following message at least twice on that page:
NOTE: NOT compatible with 2003 models equipped with the 6-Disc in-dash headunit or factory navigation system.
So, I'm guessing... no.

Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
A couple points to add:
1) FM modulators, which connect directly to the radio's antenna input, and FM transmitters, which broadcast a signal wirelessly, are not the same. Modulators generally produce a stronger, cleaner signal. I have one, and it's pretty good.
2) BlitzSafe is said to be working on an adapter that will allow you to connect an external source to the unused satellite connector on the back of the head unit. This solution will not work if you have a satellite receiver or if, like me, you have an "early" head unit without a SAT button.
If anyone knows otherwise or has another solution, I'd be happy to hear about it.

Re: Anyone Hook up an I-Pod??
There's a group buy going on at the moment for an AVElectronics unit that allows you to play video on the Nav screen, and has 3 A/V inputs. It might be overkill in this situation, but it's another option to get a signal into the stereo. If you don't have the Nav system, I imagine you still have the Nav input plug on the back of your radio. I have no idea how well this would work, though.
