Someone help with tweeter capacitor selection

I want to replace my tweeters so I bought the Image Dynamics NX30 tweets but they dont have the crossover capacitor. The recommended crossover is 24dB/octave at 1600-2400 Hz.

Since I don't know much about this stuff, can someone tell me what capacitors I should get and where they might sell them in the LA area ? Can't wait too install these tweets.

I would ask BillR, he seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to this stuff.

You need capacitors and coils to achieve a 24dB /octave. You can download our Crossovers made easy book from our website.

Re: Someone help with tweeter capacitor selection

Koni,
In an "ideal" situation, a 24db crossover is great. That is why they list such a low "recommended" crossover point. However that would require you to build a pretty extensive crossover. Trying to make one is kinda tough.

If you want to crossover low, you can put the following capacitor in line. For a 2000hz crossover use: 19.88uF (4 ohm) or a 22uF for a crossover at 1807Hz.

I would personally recommend that you crossover a bit higher and use a 10.0 uF cap for a crossover point @ 3975Hz.

Using the recommended caps I have listed should get you some decent sound. Those silk dome tweeters should sound really decent.

BillR,

Thanks for your recommendation. I'm going to take your suggestion and install the 10.0 uF cap. Now I just need to find a shop in Socal where they sell them.

Thanks again.
