SCCA Autocross

I've been racing on a 19" staggered set up, but I want to use 18" 350Z rims for track days to save the tires on my 19".....that shouldn't have any bearing on track times or handling to any extreme considering I'm using my DD and not trying out for NASCAR?

The rims will make no difference and could help if they are wider and allow you to run better tires. The only issue you will have is if the tires you pick out are shorter in diameter, this would effect the overall gear ratio which means your top speed in each gear will be slightly lower and could mean more shifting during a run. If you have to shift to 3rd for a moment and then right back to 2nd it could slow your time down compared to being able to stay in 2nd the hole time. So when you pick out your tires be aware of the stock diameter compared to what you are buying.

Let's be real here. A driver school is going to improve your lap times 10x over upgraded tires. Schools are only about $500 and available in everyone's area.

Seat time is always the best way to improve but I don't think he was asking if the rims would help but if there was anything negative about running an 18" rim

It won't fail as well but much more comfortable feedback and price.

No way to offer a definitive answer without knowing his complete setup.

Thanks everyone. I'm not trying to improve time or anything with the rims. In my mind I assumed the rim size didn't matter, but again I've never really raced and just asked, in retrospect, a stupid question. No doubt seat time and correct technical driving is the key.

I was supposed to be in Atlanta doing the NASA HPDE 1 but im not spending $455 and 6 hour drive to be in the rain....been nasty all week and today. CHIN will be in New Orleans in a few weeks.
