Does anyone know of a good place in Northern California that does tire shaving, mounting, and balancing? I just got a set of Toyo Proxes RA-1 and it's recommended that they be shaved to at least 6/32" before track use. I know of a place called Custom Alignment in Mt. View and they quoted me a price of $35 per shaved tire and $113 for the mounting and balancing. Seems a bit high to me but then again I'm new to R comp tires.

i'm sure you can get it done cheaper since custom alignment is a super premium shop. have you tried wheel works?

have you driven on them yet? Usually places will not shave used tires, because the road debris can damage the shaving machine.

I haven't driven on them yet. The tires are still coming. I got a set of used EVO 8 OEM Enkei wheels for cheap. 17x8 +38. Perfect offset and width for 235/45/17 RA-1's. I found a good place in Castro Valley called Roger Kraus Racing. He'll do shaving, mounting, and balancing for $45 per tire. Not bad.

are you going to heat cycle them? you should do that at least 2 days before your first track event.

I've read a usage guide on the RA-1's and they said there's no need to heat cycle them. But shaving to at least 6/32" is highly recommended.
