im goin to the track on june 3rd and need to get some pads and tires.
what do you guys think i should get?
i can get some dunlop sp sport 9000 for 55 a tire in 255 35 18.
i was planning to put them on my stock 18s. would that be a good tire? or should i like for something else?

also what brake pads should i look into getting?

What brakes do you have? The stock non-Brembo on 03/04 are undersized for track work, really heat up a lot, fade and kill pads. If the track is tough on brakes you might smoke a set of street pads in a day. A good source in FL for reasonably priced track and combo track/street pads is N-Tech Engineering http://www.ntechengineering.com/.

I can't comment on the Dunlops but I like your idea of running the 255's all around. The car will push less and feel more balanced with the larger front tires. Good Luck & Have Fun!

 

Any race compound brake pad will do. You're stock tires should be fine, unless you have less than 2/32" tread left.

 

I thought the widest size we can put our stock 18's is 245? you mean 255/40 fits too?

i have 05 brakes (rotors, calipers, pads, lines) on my 03. got them for a really good price when my 03 brakes ran out.

When you're running hot laps on a track threshold braking is a norm. If your brakes are not setup properly you will experience major brake fade after only 3-4 laps around the track. We recently had a run at Laguna Seca last January and all of us experience the same thing. Apperently it doesn't matter what brakes you use if you don't change the brake fluid you will experience brake fade. I thought I came prepared when I changed to vented rotos and race pads, but never changed the brake fluide. That was the biggest liability we all had after the race. If you are upgrading your brakes make sure to change brake fluid. I recommend the Motul RBF 600 you will need at least 3 bottles to flush out the whole system.

I was using the Dunlop SP9000 for the rear of my car and the back end was just tail happy. The Michelin Pilot Sport on the front actually held better. I would go with PS2 or even Dunlop Direzza tires. They sell these tires at Tirerack the dunlops are reasonable in price for a set.

What about 235/40R18 azenis 615's? They seem to make a good track and street tire. They're realtively cheap, too (140/tire @ vulcantire.com).
