Great write up.

Would this DIY also work for the Tein Basics?

Im getting these coilovers in a couple of months, and just like you, do not want to pay 200+ for the install.

at that point they say to remove strut assembly...GOOD LUCK! here is what i did and it made it WAY easier. Remove the lower arm bolt holding the lower suspension on and the sway bar bolt. This will allow the lower part of the suspension to drop out of the way allowing the strut to damm near fall right out. It is two more bolts... saving major time. I did have access to a lift and the job for all four corners took 3 hrs total. Good luck...sorry i took no photos...

yah, agree with rob on not being able to pull the strut assy out on the
coupes just from collapsing the a-arm. i just used my spring compressor
to compress the assy alittle, then pull it out. also, i collapsed the a-arm
where the cotter pin is. much faster.

Is it safe to drive it for two weeks to let the springs settle before getting an alignment? I know in some of my previous hondas, after i lowered it, the toe alignment was affected.

Also, if you anyone needs a spring compressor, some auto part store has free tool rentals, just put a deposit, and when you return it, you get your full deposit back.

yah, the rear will wander a little bit but you should be okay. just dont
go too fast and make sure you know the limitation of the car until you
get that alignment done.

DieselX, good DIY. I like your layman's write up.

Wow, your car is rusty though!

I followed those instructions yesterday, back were real easy but on the front after I took out the strut I was not able to remove the springs. The top mount had one nut where you had to hold on to the screw while turning the nut. This made it kind of impossible to use any kind of socket, did you guys have to bring it to the shop and had them use an impact wrench?

I did this the other day. Great write up. I had to swap springs so I had to buy a spring compressor ($10) and I also had to compress the spring to remove it from the car. The new lower springs installed is shorter so I did not have to (re)compress the spring to get it installed. If you break loose the strut bolt under the hood, it helps when you have to remove it once the strut is out. I did not use a vice at all. It was a PITA using the spring compressors though! I just used some elbow grease. 25 turns on each compressor back and forth until spring was compressed enough. Removed old spring, install new springs and recompress to get top mount installed. Lots of work but saved some ca$h and did it myself which is worth it.
