installing coilovers + sways tomorrow... questions

1 - will i need a spring compressor? or is the install possible without? where i live im not sure if i will be able to borrow one :/

2- im installing hks rs coilovers and stillen sways. any suggestions on initial settings?

Yes you may need a spring compressor for the front. The rears are easy and don't require one. Here's a nice write-up: https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=cotter

As for the Stillen sways, from what I've seen most people use Medium settings for both front and rear (thats what I'm using and I'm very happy with those settings).

^^ another +1. you'll want to use one for removing the front strut off
the car too, if you find yourself in a bind...literally.

ok im going to buy one tomorrow..

any ideas on initial settings for everything? coilovers and sways?
as of now, im thinking:
med/med for sways
full soft f&r for coilovers

and then work my way up on the coilovers.
i understand that adjusting front vs rear on coilovers and sways impacts the way the vehicle behaves..so does my idea of starting out even front vs rear on the coilovers make sense?

You might not need to buy a spring compressor. Places like autozone and Advanced Auto Parts will let you "rent" them. You'll have to pay full price for the spring compressor, but they give you like 30 days to return it for a full refund.

As for the Stillen sways, I initially set mine to stiffest/stiffest f/r. Talk about flat cornering! Q45TECH convinced me that soft/Stiff f/r was the way to go and I agree! Absolutly no oversteer. Tail end does not kick out. Very happy with this set up.

i also have hks hypermax RS. the front comes (preset) so that your stock wheels (19 OEM, or even 20 aftermarket) has a nice drop with a bit of tucking. i like it like that. the rear is way too high though. i would highly suggest you drop the rear all the way down BEFORE you install. you really cannot adjust the height once everything is intalled (too much pressure). you would have to remove the lower coil support to adjust it.

You went soft in the front and stiff in the rear?

did you have the sports suspension or the regular suspension? Did it make a really noticable difference?

I have the sport suspension on my 2003 sedan. The Stillen sway bars made a HUGE improvment in handeling. With the addition of the GTSPEC lower tie bars, it improved even more.

The 03s im sure did not come with a sports suspension...they all had the same suspension regardless if you had the sports package or not. I think 05 was the first year you could have optional suspension. I could be wrong though...anyways if they made a difference with the sedan sports suspension im sure it will help my coups regular suspension...Stillen sways here i come Yeeee HAWWW!~!!

Your right concerning coupes, however sedan's have had a sport and non sport suspension from day one.

I have had the pleasure of installing many different spring rate combination's and testing them along with different sway bar settting combo's. In testing, going soft in the front and stiff in the rear is the setup that worked the tires the poorest and yeilded the poorest dynamics. Going soft in the front on this platform deliver's high roll rates that works the insides of the tires, without asking much of the rest of the thread.
