get the best model you are comfortable spending the money on. i bought a 3 ton aluminum craftsman from sears and i am very pleased with it. i has a one pump feature that raises the jack up to meet what is being lifted. once in contact with the bottom of the car, it raises the car like a standard jack.

also, i have yet to find quality tools the two times i've gone to harbor freight.

check out the reviews.

Not too sure about harbor freight either.

usually the problem lies in the hydraulics...they can be replaced.

I would just get a pair of Takata ramps if your car is lowered, and get a standard jack. The ramps are a good idea if you have a body kit or your car is just excessively low. z1auto.com lists them.

screw (your words) takata, if you're going cheap get some piece of wood
from your wood working neighbor... free. i dont know which standard jack
you're talking about, but the cheepo hydraulics jacks ($20 ones) are junk
imho. it's them from my experience that the seals broke, plus takes like 20
pumps to get the car off the ground... and, why even bother driving the car
up something when you can just get a low profile jack under there?

on one of the earlier HF model i had the front roller seized. other then
that the jack has been real good. had it replaced under warranty and
since then have been WD40ing the roller axle area off and on. no issues
since. cheap, so i bought another one and endedup with 2 units.

the auto-up feature on the sears is convenint, but i sandwich a small
block between the lift area and the jack to prevent damage to the rail...
so dont need that feature as it makes it kinda hard to aim. but i think
the craftsman jack is real nice. i have their miniature model in my
garage. lol if you're going to jackup the entire rear end or front
end at one time, that auto-up feature is real nice.

I bought that one too. It's low enough to clear my buddy's Greddy side skirts without driving up on boards. Yay. And you can't beat Costco's return policy if it goes bad. Just return it and they'll refund your money at any time.

i stay away from their bo-bo brand power tools....but for specialty things and hand tools, they have good deals there.

and there's at least 2 tires on the ground or 2 jack stands on the car.

not all 3500lbs is on the jack.

but, do you guys think that a high pound rating would be better, and not have the hydraulic seals break?

I have the exact same jack from harbor freight. I love it (the blue is just sexy). I use my ramps when I do oil changes though.

same here, ramps work better for the oil changes.
