Midas Brakes = Stupid Idea!!

I recently purchased Powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads from tirerack. They came in today and i went over to Midas to get them installed for $90. After i got them installed, they drove it around the parking lot and gave me the keys, saying im ready to go home...i drove home, roughly 2 miles and on my way, all i heard was a loud noise. Ive read before that slotted rotors will make some noise till they break in...but this noise was amazingly loud and almost scary. So, i turned back around and headed back to midas, who was by then closed. So, i drove to sears and they did a brake evaluation to find the cause of the noise. Turns out, Midas did not torque down ANY of my front right lug nuts, causing 2 of my lug nuts to be lost and the other 3 on the verge of coming off. Good thing i didnt get on the freeway...I should have listened to my friends that told me not to go to Midas to get my brakes done...now i learned my lesson...btw, Sears told me to go back to midas and complain and attempt to get my installation fee back, since someone did that to sears long time ago in a lawsuit, in which sears lost...wat do you guys think? not worth the time?

Either way, STAY AWAY FROM MIDAS!!!

Wow, Midas wouldn't even install aftermarket brake pads for me. That was the one in San Francisco on Ocean Ave.

Taking your car to Midas for a brake job is like taking your car to Maaco for a paint job.

Good grief! Pleased to read that you found the cause of your concern prior to any serious injury to yourself, gesekee19.

definitely leave a message on their store phone tonight, then talk to the store manager and tell him what happened.

they owe you not only an appology but a new set of lugs and a full
refund of that sloppy work they did.

I luckily had my stock ones in my truck, which fit. Yes i know, Midas was a dumb mistake on my part. I was going to go to Status but felt lazy to drive 20 minutes out there and Super Autobacs wouldnt install my pads and rotors cuz i didnt buy from them. Im going to go to Midas tomorrow and try getting my refund for their sloppy install.

Worse take a moment to think about the employees who are paid so little and have to work there, because of low skills or bad habits or both.

One of our shops use to have a national brake chain sharing the same complex/parking lot..... so when they were slow the guys would come over and use our vending machines.........they were hoping they could get hired and be paid like our techs $25 vs $8-12. We know way more than we need to about national chain auto repairs......the nightmare of every tech's dreams.

Buy a personal torque stick that matches your lugs and 80lb.ft so if you are ever in the boondocks any air gun can be used to tighten lugs.

Last time I took my G to my dealer they cross threaded three lugs on one wheel -- everybody screws up, even at $85/hr.

I wouldn't take my car to any chain. Once out of warranty, look for a good local independent and give them your business, even if it means paying an extra $30 for a set of tires.
