Happy with your Akebono pads?

I have an 04 sedan and will need to replace the front OEM brake pads soon. I'm already past the 36k warrranty. I did a search in this forum and saw quite a few recommendation on the Akebono pads. For the Akebono users, are you happy\satisfied with them? Any installation\fitment issue? any brake noise, squealing etc. compares to the OEMs? I'm willing to give up some performance for longer brakes and rotor life. Also, does it actually come with the shim kit or you have to reuse the old ones? some conflicting info that i have read. i'm planning to get them at tirerack.com. thanks for any feedback.

I've had mine for about 15K miles. So far so good. No squeals, no dust. Last time they were checked, they had most of the pad left. I changed my OEM pads and rotors at about 12-15K, so I will get a lot longer life with the akebonos. There is a difference in stopping power. I have not measured it, but it does take a little longer to stop. The akebono pads are also not as "grabby" at low speeds as the OEMs. When I need replacements, I will get the akebonos again. I had mine installed at a shop, so I cannot answer your other concerns. Good luck!
