I'm going to finally order my BBK for the front of my coupe. The two most affordable systems for me are the Wilwood setup from Arizona Z,

any thoughts...good or bad on either of these systems?

1 last question...do the black calipers get lost behind the wheel because of the color? I wanted red because that is the color of my coupe, but that isn't a deal breaker.

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Not That I have either system but the Wilwood loses the parking brake.

 

Is that an issue with Auto Transmissions?

The front Arizona Z Car kit has nothing to do with the parking brake.
I have the Black 6-pot Wilwood from AZC, they do not get lost. But then again, I have the 5Zigen wheels. See my sticky thread above.

 

Actually, the Wilwood factory kits retain the parking brake via an iron rear hat. Yes I know we are talking about front kits here for the most part.

 

Cato...you're absolutely right, they don't get lost with your wheels. I have the OEM 19's, so I don't think they'd be as visible as yours.

Why would the 4 pot brakes from Racing Brake be more expensive than the 6 pot brakes from Arizona Z? Is it a brand name thing?

This is what dkLau33 said to me about the AZ system that he sold:

There's some minor issues I didn't like about it. One was that they used 35mm thick rotors instead of 32mm rotors which most other companies like Stoptech use. 3mm doesn't seem like much but in this case it was. This means there is barely any space clearance between the rotors and pads when the pads are new. This also means you have to perfectly center the caliper over the rotor using the washer shims. This was a trial and error process which took me several times of installing and uninstalling the caliper on each side and either adding or subtracting shims. If you don't get it right, one brake pad would go in but the other won't since the space tolerance is so low between the rotor and pads. Also the non-contact surfaces of the rotors are not painted or zinc coated which means no rust prevention. So it looks ugly and when you wash your car it's possible to get rust runoff on your wheels. Besides those points and some low speed squeaks, the kit performed well for street and track. If you're willing to possibly put up with these issues then the AZ kit is great bang for the buck. Otherwise I'd suggest the official Wilwood kit that's actually offered by Wilwood that comes with proper 32mm rotors. Only $300 more than the AZ kit.

Or better yet, for $300 more go Stoptech and don't even worry. Quite pricier but you get what you pay for.

 

A lot of RB's cost is in the rotors. If you compare the prices for their 2 piece rotor upgrades and their aluminum caliper kits, you'll find that the calipers are only a small part of the cost of the kit.

 

that is true, but they rotors cost more because they are lighter than most aftermarket brake kit's rotors. The oem rotors weigh 22 lbs for the 05-07 coupes, the racing brake OEM replacement rotors only weigh 18lbs.

I have had the RB 2-pc, drilled/slotted 4-Pot front kit and oem 13" rear kit for over a year have been very happy. I got them for an awesome deal when they first came on the market so that was a big part of the choice.

I have pushed them very hard on a few occasions and never had any problems.

 

Yeah they are quite a bit lighter than the stock ones. Less unsprung weight = power!

 

I had them on my 350Z and I took it to Buttonwillow on a 95+ degree day with R-Comp tires and they not only held up, they exceeded all my expectations wrt performance. Not a signle sign of fade and I was trying some crazy late braking stuff.

The only problem I had, and this is common with ALL BBKs, is that it took literally 3-4 bleeding to get all the air out. And I must not have tightened the bleeder screw enough so a little bit of the fluid leaked out and stained my caliper...But it wiped off easy enough.

 

I measured the rotors and calipers when I installed them, the RB rotors were about 2-3 lbs lighter each than OE rotors, and the caliper was a good 4 lbs lighter than the OE caliper!

6 lbs of saving per corner.

 

Pulled the trigger and just ordered the 2-pc, slotted 4-Pot front kit and oem 13" rear kit for my coupe. Racing brake was good enough to give a discount for ordering both front and rear. Service wise....I have to give them two thumbs up.
