Exclamation Problem with Stock 19" Forged (2006 Coupe)

Hi guys, new here, but had a question:

I usually clean my rims and tires with a spray-on product that I have been using since I bought the car... Just recently, I picked up a bottle to replace the used stuff, and it appears that the bottles, although nearly identical, were not. After using it, my rims are streaked with black, and it doesn't come off. I am guessing they're ruined, but I know nothing about wheel finishes.

Do they need to be re-finished, and if so, what kind of finish do they need? Is it costly? I am ignorant when it comes to pricing, and don't want to be taken advantage of financially. Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

what product did you use? more details about the black streaks (i.e. pictures) would help.

The finish is ruined and will need to be refinished. Its going to be hard to get them to look like stock again because of the process that is used normally. YOu are better off getting them powdercoated in a silver or another color such as gunmetal, depending on your area, it should cost $200-500+ cost of removal/reinstall of your tires

Hi, Thanks for the response,

Problem is, that the car is a lease.... October is when I have to hand it back to Infiniti, (just in time for the G37 ). What would be the best finish to get them as close to original as possible? The product was used on the drivers side front and back. The passenger side wheels were treated with the correct product, and have no damage whatsoever....

Thanks..

My suggestion would be to take it to a wheel repair shop and ask if they can somewhat match the finish on the wheels, its normally a black basecoat with a translucent silver topcoat which give the wheel a silver look without alot of metallic flake. This finish isn't available in the US and is hard to replicate. You might be better off purchasing a set of used 19's from the marketplace and selling the pair of damaged ones along with the two good ones to recoup some of your money. Someone will buy them and refinish all 4 to a color they prefer

Thanks, RED, very informative. I had no idea Infiniti used such a strange finish..... I knew I liked it for some reason..... lol.

Turning black sounds like he might have used some highly acidic product.
