Brakes which brakes wear down first?

which brakes wear down first, the front or rear?

I had a Maxima before my G and I def. replaced the front more ofen than the rear. I just got my G about a month ago, was told the front brakes needed to be replaced, took it to the dealer and they said my rotors were too thin to be turned and would need to be replaced. I replaced the front brakes/rotors and I still hear the noise I did previously and now I think its my rear brakes.

I guess I'm wondering if rear wear down faster in the G b/c its RWD compared to my Maxima which was FWD.

The front normally wear down almost twice as fast as the front. I have had cars that went through two sets of front pads before the rear pads were done.

Another thing to look for is how much more brake dust is on the front rims than the back ones and that will tell you how much faster the fronts are wearing.

Ok, just wanted to make sure it wasn't different b/c this was RWD. If i do get another set of OEM, it def. won't be from my dealer, way too expensive. My dad use to own a dealership so he can help me change them and I'm just going to get rotors/pads off the net (unfortunately I haven't had a lot of luck finding ones for the rear that weren't basically as much as my dealer was charging).

I have Brembos and my rears wore out faster than the fronts. After years of going aftermarket, I now only go OEM for many reasons. I found great prices on everythingg35.com, grubbs performance, and chad. search for them.

Previous car, front brakes at 102K, rear drums at 85K. But different technologies involved

On my 04 G35, front brakes at 37500. Rear brakes still original at 41K.

Typically front brakes wear out faster because weight transfers to the front under braking, which means the front brakes do most of the work.

+1 what G35fromPA said, unless you are dragging (riding) the brakes.

My Brembo OEM pads, after ~20K miles, inside rear were done while front had plenty left. Replaced all pads with B-Force pads and now I am, ~15K later, on my third set of front B-Force pads while still on initial B-Force pads in the rear. However my driving style during last 15K miles have been very different than first 20K miles.

Since 1989 Infiniti has used above average rear brake pressure to squeek the last foot of stopping distances out..........this worked especially well with VLSD and SHARP ABS CYCLE TIMING and attack/release points.

On the early Q wear was so close to equal that it was amazing. Unfortunately as they played around with pad compounds to calm whiners [4 different front pad compounds] it oscillated back and forth.

Always interesting to measure rotor temps as a indicator of pad temps to select pads to match temperatures the hotter pad will wear first.
