Strut tower bar install study G35 coupe or sedan

Ok, I do not have one installed, but I've had a crawford strut tower bar that I finally got around to checking to see what would be involved to install in on the G35.

1. The G35 does NOT have the 350Z's special welded on strut tower mounts seen here, so it is NOT a simple bolt on mod at all.

On a hunch I checked to find out if one could buy those mounts out of Nissan's collision repair catalog, BINGO you can, 64120-cd000 (RT) 64121-cd000 (LFT) BUT,.....$219 each
ouch! I'd imagine I could whip up some crude mounts with 1/2" plate steel cut into pieces with bolt holes drilled and taped and take it to a hot rod shop or body shop and work out the mounts.

2. I discovered another problem for me and the Crawford bar (I don't think anyone that doesn't have the Crawford pleneum that would use a oem 350Z strut tower bar will have this as a issue) The wiring loom that wraps around the engine and runs in front of it is routed out of the way on the 350Z. On the G35, it prevents the Crawford bar from being where it has to be. I pulled and streached and their's simply not enough slack to get it out of the way to route like the Z. I'd hate to think what it would cost to pay someone to make a longer wire bundle.

3. On both sides of the strut tower you have braket's that are in the way, that are not present on the Z On the passenger side a bracket securing the power line out of the battery compartment seen here.

And on the drivers side you have a bracket holding onto a A/C line seen here

Here are some detail shots showing the bar sitting in place on the car, I tried to show how they rest on the strut towers naked so if anyone wanted to imagine making mounts they can see where they'd have to go.

Sounds like the ends do not justify the means. Way too much work and way too much money involved for a simple strut tower bar. Unless you're hardkore into auto-x and simply NEED that slight increased in rigidity, I don't see anyone doing this.

Good writeup and research though!

Good work Gsedan... this will definitely help/peak the interest for anyone who is willing to take on such a project. But like the poster said above is the costa and time to do this justify the resulting benefit?

Great Job! I hope this gets someone's interest. Have you posted it in any of the other forums? Maybe you'll get someone attention there. It would be nice if he somehow came up with a bolt on adapter.
Well, good job, and let's keep our fingers crossed.
