HELP.. Bearings went out at 50K... What Can I Do?

I had my front driver side bearings go out with only 50k miles on my car. I bought my car in Jan '04 and drive a combo of residential and freeway miles. There was at least a 1/2" wobble of the tire as the result of the bad bearings. I had them replaced at my local shop but now I notice the potential for the other side to be going out as well. What is the ave life of bearings and would I have a complaint case against the dealer to make them pay to get them replaced? I know they will not repair as the result of normal wear and tear but 50k seems very low to be blowing bearings. I feel that paying $700 for the replacement of front bearings is not an expense that one would expect at 50k miles.

Thank you ahead for all advice...

Wouldn't this be covered under the 60K warranty? I agree that it sucks. I have 65K on on my 05 and have not had the same issue. Strange that both would go.

I have the 100K warranty so thats why I want to see if I have a case against the dealership. I would like for them to refund what is cost to repair the car if it is a warranty item as well as replace my other bearings.

$700? Bearing is $180 and there's one hour of labour max per side. I replaced mine myself.
Anyway, warranty should cover it, bearing is NOT a normal wear item.

I dont have the skills nor the tools to replace myself. The bearings were about $180 and labor was $100. I was indicating the cost for both bearings to be replaced, actually closer to $600. I am going to dealer next week to get some stuff fixed as well as trying to get my money back. I had to get it replaced at my mechanic as the car could not be driven for fear of my whole wheel falling off. They better not give me any crap.

Not normal for bearings to wear out.........!

If they won't fix them under warranty give your neighborhood Nissan
dealership a call and see what they'd charge......quit a bit less I'm sure!

i had my rear bearings(right side only) replaced at 69k under the 70k powertrain...... why people take there car to outside mechanics when there car is under warranty is beyond me....but im sure u had your reason(bad local dealer, to far or what not) but as far as doing the other side take it to your dealer and try and get your money back on the other side...as far as average life its all in where and how you drive it....

What does dealer have to do with your warranty? It is with Nissan and their Infiniti Division. Dealer are independent businesses which have a reimbursement contract with Nissan warranty.
If you want reimbursement your odds are NIL because you didn't avail yourself of free roadside towing back to a dealer...............

Failure to understand the logistics [or to read and understand the warranty booklet and YOUR OBLIGATIONS] will surely leave you frustrated.
With rear wheel drive vehicles the flat bed wrecker becomes your friend

Time to start adjusting to the $2500 per year maintenance and repair costs.
Tires. brakes fluids and things that wear and wear out.

Are members having trouble with 100% oem wheels and bearings as I've seen lots of heavier non oem wheels and brake modifications [extra heat] causing this problem.

What are you talking about? I have 65,000 miles and other than my self induced swaybar problems (knocking and clunking from aftermarket bars, bushings and endlinks) my car is rock solid. If I was spending $2,500 annually on repairs I would get rid of the car. My son will begin driving this car next year and I have no doubts he will be safe from danger as well as from asking me to foot repair bills (other than his accidents ).

If the bearings are going at such low miles, I would hunt for a cause. Again, with DAYS upon DAYS of tracking, 108 mile commutes and 65,000 miles later no issues. Find the root cause and don't accept the notion that the bearings are simply weak.

Tires, tire balancing, alignments, brakes, rotors, prorated shocks and every other rubber isolated component you have worn down but not replaced as yet..............probably much higher than the financial depreciation.

Whether you spend the money to contantly return the vehicle to as new vs wait for a series of gross failures is up to you.

If a $5000 transmission lasts 10 years does it not cost $500 per year?
Same with a $3500 AC system $350 per year.

Just because you chose to not spend it doesn't mean anything other than at somepoint you must find a used car sucker.

Why a 6 year old car auctions at 25-29% of brand new MSRP.
