Because they are prone to cracking.

It is dependent on the brand and quality of the rotor, but they are all still more prone to cracking than blank rotors

Because the exotics feature CAST in holes vis drilled in holes. Drilling the holes creates stress risers that lead to cracking. Ever wonder why the cracks start from the holes?

Also exotics probably change the rotors way more often mileage wise.

You can run drilled if you want. Won't net you any measurable gains on the street and you run the risk of cracking and if they warp, you can't turn them

Interesting thread, I didn't know about the potential of cracking, nor about the higher quality cast rotors used by exotics.
Filled my learning quota for the day!

instead of cross drilled, get slotted rotors.

shrug i run stoptech drilled just fine. then again, they havent seen any track days.... it seems that if you want hardcore performance, get a solid or slotted rotor. i went with drilled because they look good and stoptech makes good stuff.

I know a shop in Cali that purchased brembo blanks and drill/slot them themselves and some automated machine. i don't trust anything coming from them.

even though the process is probably similar used by brand name companies, i'm guessing there is a 2nd step after the drilling. Such as some type of "heat" treatment to make it stronger.
