Bringing back an old thread, but only because I've done my research and think this may be my problem!

I took my car into a shop today because I have a bit of a creak/clunk coming from the front end on both sides. The guy at the shop said there is a tiny bit of play in the compression rod ball joints/bushings, but nothing bad enough to be a safety concern. Could this little bit of play be causing the noise? It seems like it's only when I drive over large bumps at low speed, and even then it only happens sometimes - of course not when I have the mechanic in the car for a test drive

I have the same problem minus the sqeeking noise. Have anyone tried replacing the bushing only and ordering the parts from Infiniti of Riverside? They have revised compression rod bushing.

*i thought the noise was coming from a loose brake caliper at first. Replaced it and still heard the noise.

I was advised by my tuner to replace the whole rod rather than just the bushing because they have a short life. Also replaced my shocks with Tokico D specs while I was at it. Tightened everything under my car finding a loose sway bar end link, new bolt and loctite and she's quiet as a mouse....but no squeaks.

Gary, why would you replace the entire rod when it's the bushing that has a short life?

Bushings are very easy and fast to replace if equipped with proper tools.

Would you guys know how to determine if the compression rod bushing is bad? I'm hearing metal hitting metal noise every time I hit a bump but the bushing looks okay to me. Just want to understand exactly on whats causing the noise.

The dealership around here sells you only the whole compression arm with the revised balljoint and fork out more for the bushings.

bushings normally go out in 100-120k mile range. With that millage I can guarantee you that you have bad bushings.

do some search on the types of bushings to go with. There is plenty info on bushings and reviews.
