I've got a set of those impact sockets with nylon sleeves. Thing is, they only do any good if you're putting the socket right onto the lugnuts. With many aftermarket lugs these days, like spline drive McGard and Gorilla that use a special socket, it's pointless.

They really work well with my Project Mus...

You might also consider cutting the fingers of latex gloves (dish washing or other kinds). Fit multiple layers over the socket. That way you won't have to deal with the glue on the socket should you need to remove the tape....

I've had no problems with a 21mm deep craftsman socket. Not wrapped. Doesn't rub. No scratching.
