Just wondering peoples opinions on these two products. I'm looking for coilovers but I don't want to sacrifice ride quality that much. I have read good things about both of these brands. I'm looking to lower my car about an inch all around and I like that fact that I can adjust ride height whenever I want. Lets hear some opinions.

 

The prices are about $800 for Tein and $900 for Megan racing.

 

Both will sacrifice ride quality noticeably.

 

+1, check the springrates on them. I would go basics out of those 2

 

EHHH...I DONNO I GOT TEIN BASICS, AND REALLY DON'T FEEL MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STOCK....RIDES REALLY NICE

about 60% stiffer in the front, and 18-47% stiffer in the rear. The may be below some people's noticeable threshold, but IMO that is significant enough to cause a decrease in ride quality while increasing performance. Also, I believe the basics do not have a seperate preloading capability so the lower in the front you go, the higher the effective springrate becomes do to the adjustment mechanism

 

I have been in a car with the basics and they are stiffer than stock for sure. If you are that concerned go for the Tein CS.

 

thanks for the information. What camber kits are recommended? Do I need front and rear? Ill probably be going with the Tein basics because more people seem to have those so thats a good sign.

Why?

 

I've had basics on my 06' coupe, sport 19's, for several weeks now, along with a set of hotchkis sway bars. In terms of ride comfort, I can honestly say that the car isn't any more "rough" than stock. The stiffer spring rates definately transfer more sensations through the suspension, but when you hit an indentation in a road, there is actually less of a jarring, jumping effect, if that makes any sense.

My only previous experience with suspension is with a set of eibach springs on my old IS3, and I can honestly say I ruined the ride with them. With the basics, not at all. Unlike springs, the basics (with sways) totally changed the handling dynamics of my car. No longer does it have that sort of "boaty" feel going into and out of turns. I can honestly torque steer the car through a turn now, without feeling like the rear end is going to come around and put me in the ditch. All this dynamic change without a "compromised" ride quality: where my springs ruined my IS, my basics setup on my G merely altered the ride quality to match the new handling characteristics.

Not to mention it looks gangster lowered @1 inch

My camber is off, -2 front, -3 rear. I'm going to see how much my stock tires wear, and decide whether or not to get a camber kit when I invest in a new set of rims and rubber. Hopefully the camber will hasted the decision making process...

GL with your decision. I love my basics. They're everything I need in a suspension, and nothing I don't.

 

Upgraded sway bars are worth every penny!

As for the camber kits, it depends on how much you drive and how far your camber is off. The rear kits are cheap and easy so at least get those. Plus rear tires run more since most of us run at least 275's back there.

 

I agree 100% with the sway bars. I had Stillen sway bars on my '03 sedan and loved them. Unfortunately when I sold the car I could not get the sway bars off for the life of me (stripped screws). So Ill have to cough up another $300 for another set. As far as camber kit I was able to find one for the rear for around $80 so I will be getting the rear for sure. Thanks guys for all the helpful information. I have found my summer project now.

 

I have been reading as much as I can about Megan Racing coilovers and many others as well. They appear to be built very well. The quality looks amazing. Still, I have read many posts that say they are junk and that most of their other products are junk. Most all of these posts I've read are at least a year old and some date back to early 2005.

I have some MR toe rods on my car and although they don't effect much, they are well made. So I don't get it... What's the beef with Megan Racing?

 

Where are you getting a rear camber kit for $80?
