How hard are sway bars to install?
How hard are sway bars to install?
I'm thinking about snagging a set of sways very soon, but how hard is the install? I have ramps but no lift, am I screwed?

Re: How hard are sway bars to install?
I was lazy and took my wheels off, but I doubt you need to. You'll probably need some wd-40 to be able to break any bolts loose. As I remember, I even had to use a wrench and a mallet to get the linkage bolts moving. You'll also need to have some deep metric socket attachments to get some of the bolts off. It took me 90 minutes and I had no clue what I was doing.

Not too bad, but you should definatly make sure you have all of the tools needed. especially the torque wrench.
I jacked the car up using the factory jack and put it on jack stands. The front was cake, unbolted it and it dropped right out. With the back, some people drop the exhaust. But I just twisted and wiggled it around the exhaust.
I took a bunch of pics for a DYI but I've just been too busy at work.

I hate to do this to you, but.... the best explaination I have seen is here

I know, I know this is a chick site but it is very clear, well done, and straightforward. She did a lot of work to post this job right, and it shows.

A ramp should be ok. I don't think you can fit an 18" breaker bar underneath the car that's just sitting on a ramp or even a jack stand. I used an impact tool to get the bolts out. Like some other people I did unbolt the exhaust connector to remove the back one. There are about 3 bolts holding it so it was pretty easy. Don't forget to apply the silicon grease that comes with the sways otherwise you will hear squicking after a few days.
Here are some pics....

I had mine up on jack stands. 18" breaker bar fit but i had to apply pressure slightly off 90 degree angle and in smaller arcs. but it really made things easy.
