Planning to get front BBK? What size? brand?
Planning to get front BBK? What size? brand?
My front brake pad are wearing down. Instead of surfacing the rotor, i kinda want a set of BBK. There are sooo many brand out there, there are 4 piston and 6 piston. My questions are:
Are 4 piston and 6 piston look very difference? (The main reason i get BBK is for the look)
I have Stock 19in, is there enough clearance?
What's the price range for a set of front + labor? $1500? $2000? $2500? $3000?
Any input is welcome. Thanks

You only wanna get a front kit? If you're going BBK for the looks, and only plan on getting fronts, then you're better off keeping the stock brakes as far as looks goes (IMO).
At the bare minimum, go with a 6/4 setup. BBK up front with tiny stock calipers in the rear FTL.

If you just want looks, then a 4 piston kit up front would work just fine. Expect to pay around $2k or so for something like a Rotora kit. Wilwood/Megan/Racing Brake make some budget BBK's.

Trust me, having a BBK only in the front doesn't look bad. I also don't understand why having only a front kit would not perform better than the stock set-up. Next time you see a Acura TSX-S take a look at its brakes. Factory BBK in front, crappy stock in back.
To balance things out in the rear get stainless lines $50, better rotors $100, and more aggressive pads (I suggest Hawk HPS or Porterfield R4-S)$60 - $100. Then spray paint the rear caliper BLACK. One more time just to be sure...
ONLY PAINT THE CALIPER BLACK! RED PAINT = RICERBOY
It's all about heat dissipation, and the stockers can't take much before fading.

Yes, you can balance it out somewhat with a more aggressive rear pad, but likely not enough, and that's a bit of a guessing game. Long story short - I would ask the manufacturer for test results before and after before putting on any BBK.
Ignoring the aesthetic reasons, most people decide to go for a BBK after a hard drive or tracking their car. Thats when you discover that only a couple fast decelerations will turn your brake pedal to mush.
Any reputable aluminum bodied multi piston caliper will dissipate heat better than stock. But sure, if you are doing anything more than hard street driving or auto-cross, the rear caliper will be a weak link.
FYI I ordered my 6 Piston Wilwood from www.arizonazcar.com. The best deal available for $1395. However, insist that they provide you with non-Wilwood pads. The Wilwood BP-10 "smart pad" is awful.

I do disagree, however, with the notion that only panic stopping distance is affected. Under-braking the rear will affect all braking distances, and of course will also lead to accelerated front pad wear. The good side, I suppose, is that your rear pads will last a lot longer.
