brake replacement?
brake replacement?
Just took my car in for an oil change....it's got close to 60K on it now and the service folks said my rear brake pads and rotors need to be replaced cuz they're worn down completely to the sensor? I've only had the car for a year but I bought it at 30K and I don't ride it very hard or slam the brakes a lot, nor do i live in the city. Does this seem early to replace both the pads AND rotors? Did you guys have to do this yet? And if ya did...how much did it run you including parts? Thanks!
I did my rear brake pads at like 42K. Isn't hard to do but had the stealership do it
. IIRC cost was like $250+ including rotor resurfacing.
I'd be surprised if you actually had to replace your rotors and not just have them resurfaced...
If you actually need new rotors I'm sure you're looking at a lot more. I'd shop around for aftermarket rotors if I had to replace mine.

Everyone wears their brakes differently so it's hard to give you a hard and fast rule, but 60k on rear rotors sounds like plenty to me. The only critical measure is whether they meet the minimum thickness in the FSM.
Anyway, they're not particularly expensive items if you buy them from someone other than the dealer. Why not get the peace of mind and just replace them?

OCAutosports drilled and slotted rotors are very cost effective! I recently purchased them with Hawk HPS and Technafit SS lines - extremely reasonable price - and David was a great help!
OP you might want to check into them... So far they have been great - I don’t have a lot of spirited miles on them yet - so I can’t give an honest review of hard driven performance - but normal daily driving has been no diff than OEM (actually a little quieter surprisingly).

Before you throw the towel in....!
A bunch of us here on Driver use Hawk HP pads. If you use the brake in
procedure they'll last a long time without any issues or noise. (do a search
for the procedure) I would never go to the dealership for anything I didn't
have to, including brakes. Find a reputable Brake/Alignment shop in your area,
give them the pads and ask them to install/resurface your disc's. If they've
never been turned you're probably alright. Or if you have the knowledge
and tools you can DIY.
