Lug and Thread Stripped. What Do I Do?

I don't know how, but somehow one of my lug nuts got stripped along with the bolt that it goes on. I'm wondering where I can take this to get it fixed and if it take it to the dealership, approximately how much am I looking at for them to fix it? I'm not sure if this would be possible, but could it be covered under warranty?

either, you can replace the stud or you can have a mechanic do it for you. call your local infiniti parts dept. and get a price on the wheel stud and look up on google if you want directions on how to replace it.

Probably any tire shop, would be way cheaper than the dealer. Wheel studs are fairly common to replace.

Cheap part. Take it to a tire shop.

Wheel Studd replacement....been there!

There's only one place I'd go to buy a new wheel studd in Ca., knowing you
won't get screwed on the price....Riverside Infiniti 1-800-919-8130. Or you
could take your car to any quality brake/alignment shop and have them
replace it for you. Always request that if anyone removes your wheels they
use a Torq wrench to reinstall....this will save you many head aches in the
future! (more stripped studs/warped discs)

Thanks for the info. I had planned on getting the parts from the dealer and seeing what they charge. Riverside is a bit far from me and the gas I spend driving to and from would be a bit much. I'll see if the rim shop my friend knows will take care of it when they swap my rims. I don't want to risk doing it myself, just because I feel uncomfortable and I don't mind spending a few bucks for my stupidity.

How bad is it stripped? The stud can be chased with a dye if it's just burred in a couple of spots. The lug can be re-tapped on the inside, if the outside is stripped just buy a new one.

Either way, it's an easy fix. If you choose to replace both, it shouldn't be much in parts and labor.

I got the lug nut and bolt from the dealership. It was $8 total for both. I was curious about cost to get it fixed form the dealer and they were asking $200. No way I'm paying that. I went to my mechanic and he said he would do it for $35, but to get a file and see if I can clean out the grooves on the bolt that is stripped, because it looks like that may work. $35 isn't bad. Much more reasonable than $200.

Sears told me $20. Apparently it's fairly common.

Hmmm, I'll stop off at Sears tomorrow on the way home from work if filing the grooves doesn't work. Thanks for mentioning it. Is it fairly common on the G35's or just in general for all cars?

$200? That's sick. They only have to pull the tire and the bad stud.

Just in general if the lugs get over tightened.

Since I got rims, I had my mechanic do it. He charged $45 for replacing the bolt and swapping the original wheels with the new ones.
