General Frame and suspension

My first question, everytime I go over bumps side way or entering upward driveway, my chasis (frame) makes this twisting (thump) sound. Does anyone having same issue? I talk to the dealer and they told me that this noise is normal for G35 (b/c the car is low sports car). Is this true?

Second question is related to suspension. My '04 G35 coupe, I replaced shocks (D-spec) and spring (Z H-tech). My most concern prior to these replacement was loose ride quality. After this update, I definitely felt less body roll and better control, but my car still feels loose. I can feel the road divider impact inside my canbin everytime I run over them. I want that firm Ride quality that I felt when I first got my car, like BMW. Am I missing something here?

Pls advise guys

Much thanks

P

Every rubber bushing or suspenion isolated member needs to be replaced with new if you want NEW Feeling.

I've been getting that noise more and more as I put more miles (17k right now) on my car. It happens when I back sideways out of my driveway and I hear that loud thunk from my sunroof. I have a feeling it's only going to get worse. I wonder if an under car frame brace (GT Spec) would help with some of the flex? Can anyone confirm or at least have an opinion of the effectiveness?

As far as deteriorating ride quality, I am also starting to feel the effects of the jarring more and more through the body and suspension. I think the previous comment about having to switch out all the bushings and rubber mounts is correct. It's just a shame that it has to happen to soon (at least for me) after getting the car.

This is my first Japanese car and I must say that it is a love hate relationship for me. As the previous owner of 4 BMW's, I can say without a doubt that their build-quality is far better than Nissan's. The body and suspension never creaked or moaned at all and with over 150k on my last 328is, the door shut with a solid "thud." That being said, BMW's have there weaknesses, particularly when it comes to suspension; when it goes south, it goes back quick and is expensive to fix. They also seem to skimp on smaller, but critical parts like plastic water pump impellers and thermostats that go bad on a regular basis.

As far as the built quality i do agree BMW will always be BMW. 1986 325 with 150k miles is as solid as the E90 328 with 5k miles. Ignorant people say "why pay 5-10k more for a BMW, blah blah blah" and i always say because they know how to make a car.

As far as the "thump" sound goes, it can be number of things.
No the dealer is sucking ***** as usual. Go back to them this is not a sports car douche and those noises are abnormal. If u have stock suspension then go back to them and speak to the manager and make sure the problem is resolved. If the insist every G35 is like that, then have them take out another coupe and duplicate the sound.

...And that's the rub with BMW's. They hold there value too well. When I bought my G, I was looking at 4 cars in particular; 2 used CPO BMW's, an Acura TL, and the G35 coupe. I spent 3hours trying to decide between the two BMW's but in the end was not prepared to spend $30k on a used car. Then I looked at the TL and decided that not only would I have to get an auto, but FWD as well...that was just too much to give up. Then I came to the G. One of the sexiest car designs in recent history, great engine, great looking interior, and all for $30k with a full factory warranty.

But yes...you get what you pay for...or what you don't pay for in this instance.

As far as the dealerships go, I have not found a consistently good one. I had a creak in the temp display housing and had the dealership that I bought it from try to fix it on three different occasions. Then I ended up just going to a different dealer and they fixed it the first time out. However, that same dealership said that they couldn't do anything about my rocking seat until it actually broke. So go figure.
