Question G35 brake problems - please help!

Heya all.

First up, awesome forums here. Sooo much information it's brilliant.

Some info...
Own a G35 but the *** spec model (i live in Australia) and Infiniti doesn't exist here so my G35 is a *** imported V35 skyline. It's a 2003 coupe with the track spec option (brembo brakes).

Couple of days ago, a weird problem came up with the car's braking system. Basically, on EVERY light brake application to stop the car...at around 10mph or less, the ABS system activates even though the wheels aren't slipping. This only happens when i bring the car to a stop and i'm on the brakes lightly. No lights come on either e.g. abs or slip or traction.

I've done a brake flush and bleed a week ago and filled it with dot 4 castrol super response. The front rotors were just machined earlier today and the pads are all at around 30% yet the problem persists.

I understand the car has an abs self check system but surely it doesn't check EVERY single stop i do while driving. I've spent a few hours searching the forums and it seems a couple of members have had this problem before... here are the links to the threads i found of relevance

Anyone have any ideas on fixing this or the culprit of the problem ?

I have an idea to temporarily fix this by removing power to the ABS pump...had a look earlier today and there are several plugs going into the ABS unit. Does anyone know which plug disables the ABS pump/system. Would prefer to leave the VDC fuse in so i still have VDC etc.

Any comments welcome!

Thanks!

ok what i would try first is to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes to reset the memory in the abs control unit and then re connect and go for a drive and see what happens sometimes i notice when working on cars that this will fix it. if not you might need an abs control unit

ECU definitely reset though as the sound system and air con settings were all back to generic. Thanks!

Exclamation Same Problem - Brakes - ABS - all the time under 10 MPH

I have the same problem on my 2004 6MT sedan. I am not looking forward to a visit to the dealer. Anyone solve this problem yet?

Did you check the wheel sensors? Perhaps one of them is failing

not yet. This just started yesterday. Aside from a visual inspection, what else can the DIY'er do? I wish I had a CONSULT II....

Well, after some scouring around on the internet, It may be a faulty sensor, as Mustang5L5 suggests. It may require only some cleaning. Considering how dirty my wheels are, it is not all that unlikely.

The wheel sensors typicall operate by resistance and magnetic inductance. I've found on Fords (what i'm familiar with) is that all 4 sensors tend to read the same value of resistance in Ohms...except when one is bad. It will either read open or express some value unlike te other three.

Unsure how it is setup in Infiniti/Nissans, but perhaps the same holds true. Unplug each sensor (after cleaning) and check resistance value with a digital multimeter. If all 4 test the same, then they are most likely ok. If 1 sensor tests way off from the other 3, more than likely that is your culprit.

Just my suggestion....

While rotating my tires I had a chance to fiddle with the ABS Sensors on the four wheels. I gave the fronts a nice warm water rinse, left the rears alone - for two reasons. 1) it was the front wheels that were activiting the ABS, and 2) the rear sensors are harded to get at.

The problem when away after about 5 miles of driving. This was on 24JAN and about 1,000 miles ago. So far so good. And the ABS and VDC do work as designed.

Now I can't say it will solve someone else's problem, but it's worth a shot. Also, for anyone who removed the fuse - why not give it a try, the issue may have cleared itself.
