Old thread I know, but I bought ramps and my G can't even go up them

As for jacks, I used a walmart one, it's a tad too tall, maybe a quarter of an inch, but I jack up the car from the side with the factory jack and then use the other one...works just fine.

As for jack stands, how tall are the ones you guys use? I have some that are old, but the mounts are too wide and will bend the side skirts, plus they are way too tall.

 

Use a hockey puck to reach the pinch weld without hitting the sideskirts.

 

Hmh. What a clever freaking idea. Time to head to Wal Mart.

 

Piece of wood works as well, but the hockey puck will take the pinch weld without destroying it.

 

i'm surprised nobody has mentioned using two jacks...

 

i just bought a gm jack from walmart for 50 bucks. 3 3/8 iirc. from my guess, it should fit right under the sideskirts after i install my tanabe df210's which is pretty low already..

 

Using two jacks is an option but more of a PITA. As for the Wal-Mart jack, you are NOT getting under any slammed G with a 3 3/8" saddle height.

 

k67p67, you have the same sideskirts as me, my clearance on the side is roughly 3 inch and under... i didn't know you can use floor jack on those jack points that you have in your photo. I thought that those points are specifically used for the oem jack.

Also did you also have to drive up anything for extra clearance for that summit jack or does it slide right under without any additional clearance?

lastly, do you have your ings+1 sideskirts modified? Meaning the places for the factory jack points where those notches are, is it cut right under those areas or no? I plan on purchasing a low profile floor jack soon and was wanting to make sure before I purchase one.

 

You can use a floor jack on the stock jack points. You will likely need a hockey puck or jack pad to reach the pinch weld as the Ings+1 skirts are a bit tall. The Summit Racing floor jack reaches under the Ings+1 side skirts even with a pretty slammed ride height. No ramps necessary. My Ings+1 skirts were not modified.

 

ok, will a regular non low profile jack also work if i ride up on some blocks of wood? will any hockey puck do or do i need a special one? And do i need to mod the hockey puck in any way?

if you drive up on blocks almost any jack will work. you don't need a special hockey puck; any will do. I cut a slot in mine for the pinch weld to sit in.

 

harbor freight low pro jack, stands, and they also sell frame protector rubber things for the jackstands, i also bought a puck looking rubber thing for the jack.

Cars rust easily in Illinois this helps cut down breaking off protective coatings.

 

What if you use the hockey puck without cutting a notch out, will it damage the pinch welds?

Makes me wonder how certain shops with lifts such as the dealership raise our cars up without bending that pinch weld. There stuff is all flat from what i can tell.

I was considering getting the harbor freight low profile jack for $159 until I saw this one. Since its a bit lower and longer it seems like it will do the job better. I been dying to find a floor jack that I can use to lift my car up without riding on blocks of wood. Seems like the summit racing one is better.
