I have a 2004 G35 5AT sedan, it has all the options but it does not have the sport package. I recently just had a 2007 G35x as a loaner, and the suspension in that car just feels so much more tight and dialed in. I was on a freeway overpass going well over the speed limit and this car felt like it was on rails. Much sportier than mine, and I know it's not the tires because my car has Michelin Pilots and this loaner had all season GoodYears. I know my car is 4 years old, but the car only has 45k miles so the suspension isn't worn out. My car just feels like it rolls a bit too much, the ride is ok, but the body feels a bit wobbly sometimes on hard cornering.

I am a salesman and drive the car all over the state on a daily basis. I am looking for a more taut feel from the suspension, but it can't be punishing as this NOT a track car, just a car I sometimes like to have fun with. So I am looking for a more disciplined suspension feel without having to make major mods to the car. If you suggest fully adjustable racing coilovers, you're missing the point.

Any suggestions from experience?

 

You non-sport suspension has the softest springs and shocks available on any G or Z. A mild but definately noticable upgrade would be a set of coupe springs and shocks. I actually have an extra set of coupe shocks too. I was going to go with these but I found a set of Konis. You would be lowered about 1/2". Finish it off with a set of aftermarket sways and you would have the suspension the G sedan should have came with.

 

So, you have the shocks, but not the springs? Just curious if you wanted to part with your setup... I am looking for a "mild" upgrade as you put it.

 

Well I run the Z front springs and coupe rears. So I don't have a complete set of coupe springs.

 

Ok... You like this setup though? The front on my car looks sky high but the rear doesn't necessarily look like it needs to be any lower. In MN where I live I wouldn't be able to handle a punishing setup, because I'm in the car ALL DAY and the roads here are not mirror smooth like in FL or CA.

Another idea would be to use a set of 350Z springs/struts. They will lower your car about 3/4"-1". I had them on my 2004 sedan and they were perfect. The coupe springs/struts are a good compromise between the 350Z and sedan. Just make sure that you get the matching struts/shocks to go with the springs.

 

I'm looking to do the same thing, 04 5AT sedan as well without sport suspension.

If I'm looking for a 1" drop front and back, are you guys saying that I need not only the springs (z front / coupe rear) but new shocks as well?

 

You don't "need" them, but I would recommend that if you install a set of 350Z springs, you install the matching shocks/struts as well. You will already be under your car, so it is not much more work.

 

What would be a more sensible upgrade...

Keep factory shocks and add aftermarket springs

OR

Take out springs/shocks and replace with G35 coupe (sport) models

Which is a more effective upgrade?
