'06 Sedan Brake Pads

I will soon need to get new brake pads for my '06 sedan. I searched the forums and couln't find too much info. I'm looking for some brake pads that have better performance than the OEM ones, have less brake dust than the originals, and aren't too pricey.

I'll be needing them for the front first and a few thousand miles afterwards, the rears. Any suggestions? Only ones I found on the forums were the Project Mu (not sure if this is for the '06 sedans) and the Hawk HPS. Any other options or links to similar threads that I may have missed would be great. Thanks.

06 = you have the 12.5" front rotors and 2 piston calipers. OEM is best. Your 60-0 is still worldclass at 111 ft and Inifiniti's new compound doesn't dust nearly as much as the 03 11.5" versions.

Hawk etc for the early brakes did dust less but at the expense of low temp brake performance.

So I'd expect the same thing from most any aftermarket pad for the 06 style also.

Unless you need a pad that can stand up to track duty, go OEM. They really aren't dusty at all. I'm running a 06 Z oem setup on my 03 sedan. The dust is really no big deal IMHO for the performance you get. And the elimination of that little bit of dust isn't worth the potential performance loss by going aftermarket.

i recommend Project M (mu) NS brake pads - these are street pads that perform very well (not on track), give very little dust, and are noiseless.

For me performance and brake dust are the most important issues. I don't have a dish on my rims, it's all lip, so the chrome gets dusty real quick. I don't track at all and won't. Strictly street use.

Anyone have data for project mu pads? ie... 60-0 performance?

And BTW. performance and dust are usually two mutually exclusive features for our brakes. Especially when you talk about less dust then the oem 06+ pads.

I'm not looking for a ton more difference from either of the two. If it slightly performs better or slightly less brake dust, that's fine. Basically I'd like to know if stock is the better choice to go with or if there are any others for about the same price (or cheaper).

Are there any sponsors that give a better deal on OEM than just going to the dealership? With links if you have 'em.

This is VERY good advise.

My 2005 OEM brakes were WONDERFUL and didn't dust at all. So I changed them. Yeah I know. I put the StopTech Stage II kit on. You get all four Rotors (drilled or slotted), Hawk HPS pads, SS brake lines, and MOTUL 600 synthetic fluid. Looks sharp, BUT IT DIDN'T IMPROVE THEM ONE BIT!

If you are not going to track the car or do a LOT of high speed driving (Raging Bull), stay with the factory pads. Your sedan takes the same pads in the front as the M35 or the 05' coupe.

Is this only for the HPS pads? What's the diff between the HPS and the OEM pads?

Not much really. They claim to have more bite when cold, but I couldn't really tell the difference. I tried the EBC "Green Stuff" pads first, they had GREAT bite when cold and even worked for light track work, but they ate rotors like candy. When I took off the OEM rotors and pads the first time (22K) they looked just like brand new. No grooves or any kind of wear.

Ah, gotcha. I'll just stick with the OEM's. I have about 4-5k let on them, but I can hear the squeaking every now and then. Kinda annoying.
