Lower control arms

Has anyone had to replace the front lower control arms on their G? i took my G to a mechanic and he said i needed to replace the lower control arm bushings. I called the dealership and i was told that the bushings are sold with the entire control arm and that I had to replace the entire thing. i went to autozone and found that they do sell the bushings alone.

looking for some help before i make the decision to buy the bushings themselves, do all the labor, and later find out that i do need to replace the entire front lower control arms. thanks.

How many miles on your G?

I just got it done yesterday. I got the same story from firestone. I have an '04 G coupe with 65K. I had both control arms replaced because I just bought new tires. If you have the time, you can just buy the bushings, but you will need to have them pressed into the control arm. If you buy the new control arm, it comes with bushing on each end of the arm so I don't have to worry about the other bushing on the arm going bad.

Thanks man. I spent $360 on the LC arms and did it myself. The bushing I had bought didn't match the arms for some reason so I had to go with the complete arms.

I need to do this as well. What was involved in installing these? How would you rate the difficulty? I dont see any point in paying someone to do it if I can do it my self.

Thanks

it looks harder than it is. it's just four bolts that need to be removed but they are tight as hell. you'll need leverage when pulling on the ratchet so i recomend you use a pipe or strong tube to extend the amount of pull on the ratchet. you'll also need to loosen all the bolts first, before removing them, because then you'll have trouble removing the arms. once you get the first one done, the second will be a lot easier.

i'll try to get a picture posted and labeled so you know which bolts to remove. good luck.

Please do, a quick DIY would be very helpful! I have a breaker bar, did you have any trouble finding room for leverage?
