Looking for brake pads??? Anybody???
I found the OEM pads to be way too grabby. With Hawks, the braking force is more controllable, more proportional to the pedal force.
The stock pads grab a lot more than the Hawk pads I currently have on the car. When I first started bedding them in, it took some getting used to when braking at a stop and a couple of times my wife almost put me through the windshield. That's what I meant when I said that it takes some getting used to. The Hawks have less initial bite. I prefer the bite of the stock pads over the Hawks, but some people just don't. I went with the Hawks because I had them on my Z28 and they worked very well. I thought I would like them on the g35 but it's my wife's daily driver and it doesn't see any track time like my car. They just work better when they are already warmed up.
I believe there was a TSB for the brake rotors and pads b/c they wore down too quickly. OEM pads have received significant negative feedback for the G, with a threatened class action. Infiniti eventually caved and extended the warranty on their OEM rotors (I'm not sure about the brakes but I think so also). I had mine replaced free under the extended warranty.
The warranty coverage was for 3 years or 36K miles from In Service date for car.
Considering that we are in 2009, I can imagine no car would still be eligible for the warranty coverage.
Got mine done at 20K miles. The replacement pads were gone by 45K miles. By then I needed new front rotors as well.
Went with moderately priced Centric Posi Quiet Extended Wears (front and back) which are organic/ kevlar. No dark dust, good fade resistance, and a bit less bite than OEM. With new Centric front rotors, and rear rotor cutting, entire brake service cost under $600. That includes lifetime warranty on the parts.
One of my clients owns a company that re-manufactures brake calipers for all manufacturers here in Chicago. Their specialty is Corvette multi-pots. He has an E46 M3 and runs the cheapest US made Bendix or Wagner pads he can get his hands on in that car.

Yes, the replacement was only for 03-04. Take a look at our new pads, see youtube : G3 motorsports, have had great feedback on them!

I just went with the Nismo R-Tunes. They have low dust, and less initial grab than OEM, but when they do grab WOW better hold on!

Just remember that pads that don't dust, don't stop as well. Low dust means low wear which means reduced performance. It's just like high performance tires, you can't have exceptional performance without high wear.
I'm sure the Hawks would dust like crazy if you guys were using them for their intended purpose which is light auto-x/road course use where you can keep them in their operating range. The OEM pads wear a lot quicker because their operational range is primarily focused on lower mph speeds.

I've had Hawks on for a while now and they definately dust. The dust is a ugly rust color, but it seems to dust a bit less than oem. They have much less initial bite, but I prefer it over the oems which are really grabby. I think I'm gonna try projext mu's next.
i had hawks and they do not grab at all. it got to the point were my rear brakes are starting to grab and now i have to replace my rears. my fronts had 7mm and my rear have 3mm. i am replacing them with projects mu NS. got them at mynismo.com for 130 + tax.
I just got back from the dealer, and they told me mine are at 20% as well, and they recommend them to be changed...but they are charging me $250 for just the rears. I made a few phone calls and found a family friend who can do all 4 for that same price; OEM btw.
Im gonna get my hawk pads from infiniti riverside and then install them myself. (easy job)
also i have oem up front and there squeaking like crazy! be sure to reuse the shims. I think 250 to do all four is kinda alot. If it was me doing it for family or friends i would only charge 50 do all four.
