Opinion on ricey mod.

Ok so this guy says he can no problem cut my springs and it will lower the car a good 1" to 2" inches. He says there will be 100% no problems what so ever and he has done this on many cars including his own 350z. So its basically a free suspension mod he says he will do for free for me.

Now lets here all your opinions. Even though 99% of you all say its a horrible idea. Do you say its a horrible idea just cause the idea of cutting springs is bad or will it really cause any damage?

If they are springs available for you to lower the car safely and without any second thoughts, then why would you? Unless if he is offering a lifetime warranty and a brand new car if something happens, then why not? (Joking tho).. Hahah Good luck.

cutting springs is bad because it changes the spring rate to an unknown value. It will cause premature wear on your shocks/struts and not to mention the ride quality could be compromised.

A much better alternative would be to find a used set of 350Z springs and put them on your car. You can find a set for under $100. They will lower your car 1 inch all around, and if you already have the sport suspension, you can use your stock shocks/struts because the spring rates are the same if you go with a set of unrevised Z springs.

A proper set of springs will get you the drop you want without sacrificing safety to your car. Cut springs wont have any way of compensating for a bump, etc that a set of springs (with a higher spring rate) can. It's your under body though.

^ one of the most improper ways of lowering your car, aside from heating the springs to sag them. im sure there are other ways, but those are the most common

will it cause any damage - eventually. your stock shocks will wear faster, the car will handle poorly after said shocks start to wear down... perhaps youll crash into a tree because your suspension wasnt modified properly to allow you to handle a turn that you could before with the stock suspension and uncut springs. (extreme, i know)

lower your car the right way - purchase a set of coilovers, lowering springs and aftermarket shocks, or airbags... youll save yourself time and money in long run and have a better handling, better looking, and safe car in the process.

Get the Eibach Pro Kit for the 350Z...get some 350Z struts to go with it...or aftermarket ones.

If you want to cut springs to get a 2" drop, then you can't afford a 2" drop.

Keep it stock or go for a mild 1" drop on Z springs/shocks. You don't have the budget for anything more.

yeesh. since when did G owners become so hard up for funds? it seems like i am seeing more and more of these "have no money but wanna mod"-type threads. i never thought of the G as a replacement for a Honda Civic. i guess i was wrong.

maybe one thing that is happening is that as the G depreciates people are buying them who could not have bought one new. and now they are trying to cheap out on everything because the G was never intended to be an economy car, but the new folks are used to maintaining/modding economy cars only...

If you want a 2" drop you will definitely need cambers, If you can't afford cambers like u said earlier, go 1" unrevised Z Springs. It will give u a drop of
1" front n back (I think). That's the route im going as well because any lower will kill the car where i live with all the bumppy roads.
