brake pads/rotors questions

been reading online about how durable and long lasting the braking systems are in the 1st gens haha
anyway, not too happy about this "softer metal" they use in the OEM rotors.... oh well i guess thats the price you pay for superior stopping power

I was just wondering what everyones personal experiences have been with how often/costly it has been between brake pad/rotor replacement? Those of you that have switched to aftermarket pads/rotors, was replacement fewer and farther in between?

I am out of warranty, and cost efficiency is my number 1 concern. (price of replacement and replacement intervals.) Right now I have Duralast ceramic pads with OEM rotors.

I am a new G owner, coming from a 1999 Monte Carlo; obviously there is a big jump from braking performance in that to the G.

Again, not looking for the BEST performance. Just the most cost effective option when taking into account replacement price and replacement interval.

I have royalty rotors with hawks pads, but I cant suggest the pads. The rotors however are rather durable. I've absurdly abused them and they have not warped, chipped, or anything of the sort. Stopping power is somewhere near stock (on the less side). Royalty has a lifetime warranty against cracks/warping. I don't know how hard customer service is to deal with.

There is good deal in the marketplace for some GiroDisc w/pads that looks good to me. However I have no personal experience.

I had OEM brakes when i bought that car and they...didn't stop. The brakes had 50k miles on them and did not have any apparent service. The pads looked like melted cheese...melted.

I run Hawk HPS pads all around. For rotors on the front I am running Brembo blank OE replacements sourced from Tire Rack, and on the back I am running Nissan OEM rotors purchased from everythingg35.com. I prefer a blank, non drilled, non slotted rotor. This setup has provided very good performance (esp with some heat in the pads) and has been very cost effective since I do all my own brake work. This is on a 2004 6MT sedan. I am looking at the DBA rotors next time I need rotors.

It seems like the HPS pads last longer but I haven't had to replace the 2nd set of rotors yet, so I don't really know about that. Actually I can't remember when I put the front rotors on ... but everything seems to be holding up at least as well as OE.

I've driven just over 20K miles on the Hawk HPS pads for the fronts, and there's still plenty of life left (maybe 70-80% remaining). No hard braking or auto-crossing, just daily driving. I imagine these pads will last another 2 years before replacement.

I am running DBA rotors, SS lines, and Hawk HPS pads. I abuse my car a ton and they are lasting very well, dust is about 120% of OEM, but tolerable. Wear is about 5% after 5000 miles (basically i note no drastic change).

I am running the StopTech direct replacement Slotted rotors with Centric Posiquiet pads. I got Front and Rear pads and rotors for under $550 (not including my stainless steel lines). The initial bite on these pads are pretty good, but let me tell you, this combo can plaster you to the inside of the windshield when you jump on them.
