Pads...& rotors?

I have a 06 6mt coupe, with tein flex coilover, its set up pretty low and quite stiff. I also have the mrev/spacer combo with test pipes so the car has significantly much more torque and throttle response. my rear pads are 4mm and need replacing immediately and my fronts are at roughly 6mm.

After lurking around on the forums i have come down to 3 options for brake pads. Either, OEM, Hawks, Or Project mu's. Other than the occasional weekend canyon driving this car is my dd, however i do then to push it...almost every time i drive. lol I was just wondering if i could get some final input on some questions that im still not clear on.

1. what pads do you guys recommended.

2. is it okay for me to just change the rear's and wait a while before i do the front pads?

3. Also when i change my pads, should i get new rotors? i plan to change then eventually, but im just wondering if i need to do it right away.
Also does changing them even makes a huge difference on performance.
- if so could i just get rear rotors and leave the fronts alone till i need to replace the front pads as well.

4. should i get ss brake lines as well?

I've been using HAWK HPS pads for the last 20K miles, they stop great and I have zero noise and very little brake dust. I'd change all the pads back/front, but that's how I do things. Rotors may be fine depending on how much they're worn. When I need brakes I'll have to replace my front rotors since they're the ones worn, the backs are like new. SS brake lines are great if you need to spend another $100....

A couple of questions.

- Have you overworked your current set-up?
- What tires do you have?

How the hell did you wear out your rear pads before your fronts? I have 52,000 miles on my coupe now, and my rears still have life left, while I already replaced the fronts at 30,000 miles, as they were worn almost completely worn down to the backing plate by that time. I have Project-Mu Type-NS pads, and love them

I have Project-Mu pads as well, and I love them too. Less expensive than OEM (I have the Brembo setup), less brake dust, and similar performance. For my rotors, I just got the OEM ones turned with each brake job until they were too thin, and then I got some aftermarked Brembo cross-drilled ones.

if you do not plan on tracking the car...stay with oem pads.

I ran EBC redstuff pads on my first set of aftermarket rotors. Not a big fan of them for the street but they do put out very little dust.

Running hawks now. I like them better.

I get new rotors when I get new pads. Not really necessary but I like to start fresh

I also had Hawk HPS pads on my G35 and hated them. It had a bad initial bite and wasn't better than oem. My Akebonos on my G37 aren't as good as the Brembos. Get the Hawk HP Plus if you don't mind the added dust.

Not sure how the 06 6MTs are set up but a tech told me on a ride along that the g37s are designed to have more wear on the rear brakes than the front.

Stay with OEM if you aren't going to track it!

I'll throw another into the mix, screw the Hawk HPS and get Stop-Techs Street Performance pads. The only thing the HPS offer over stock is rotor wear friendliness and low dust levels. The braking performance for the HPS is horrible compared to OEM. I went from HPS to StopTech Street Performance pads and they have far less dust than OEM and feel just as good as OEM in terms of initial bite. Stop Tech claims higher braking threshold but I havent been able to test that yet. I was going to run race pads at an up coming track event, but I am curious to see what the track limitations are of these street performance pads.

If you are in a pinch, then just go ahead and switch out the rears, but it would be smarter to do the front and rear pads at the same time.

Also depending on his driving conditions, the VDC-ABS activation could be causing him to wear the rear pads more quickly. Other than his foot, thats the only other program activating the brakes, so thats my best guess.
