Hello subject matter experts: :-)

I have a 2004 G35 Coupe, 6mt with Brembo brakes.
Stop-tech slotted roters, project mu brake pads, Stainless steel brake lines.

The left side rotor and pad is showing "normal" wear, the right side rotor is much, much more worn. The slots in the rotor look fine on the left, but are almost worn gone on the right. The pad on the left has plenty of life, the pad on the left is at minimum 3mm.
The dealer says the right brake caliper may be sticking, and dragging. He suggested a new Caliper. They don't rebuild calipers, he said.

This is a recent problem. The car does get some track time a few times a year, and I keep on top of everything quite well. The diagnosis makes sense to me.

1. Do you agree with the diagnosis? What else could it be?
2. Any suggestions to fix issue without buying a new caliper $$$? I will obviously need to replace the rotor and pad, no question. Can I just clean the pistons?
2. Are there Brembo brake caliper rebuild kits? Is it ok to rebuild them, or should you always get a new caliper? I do all work on the car myself, could I rebuild it or need someone professional?
4. Anything else I should know?

Thanx in advance! This board has been the best source of information for me. There are some very knowledgeable people here. Thanx!

I am not familiar with brembo calipers, but standard calipers have sliders, which must be lubricated. Mine was seized-completely killed pad and chewed off rotor material. It took some effort to free the slider-almost hammered it free-I put some high temperature synthetic grease there and it is all good now. It is 30 minute job and $0.05 worth of grease.
If piston can be compressed in(say by huge grips)with reasonable effort and then it slowly comes out, then it is not seized, problem is somewhere else.

Maybe someone with brembos' can give you better insight?

while the pads could get bound up if they were not installed correctly this sounds like it's most likely the caliper...and there are re-build kits. The only way to know is to pull it all apart and see if the pistons and pads move freely. May be best to compare cost of new as there is only one right way to do brakes - don't skimp. good luck on the repair

Dealer's diagnositic was right, you def have a sticking a caliper. Their suggestion was wrong though. Nissan/Infiniti or some other manufacturer should have a seal rebuild kit and a replacement hardware kit. I would get both, but replace the hardware first along with a cleaning/inspection of the old seals and pistons. Give that a go and if it is still sticking, go ahead and replace the seals around the pistons becuase then that means your pistons have froze.

Worst case scenario, if your pistons are grudded up, you may have to replace the whole caliper or seek out some used units as they might not have replacement pistons available.

good luck

Thank you everyone.

I've decided to replace the rotors and pads, and deliver the caliper and brembo rebuild kit ($99 for 12 rubber o-rings, basically) to my local brake store and let them rebuild it for me. They quoted a price of $50 for the rebuild.

I'll followup with the results in the future.

$50 for the rebuild is actually a fair price. It's not hard work, but its definitely something you dont want to go into blindly.
