Zeal Coilover Rattling Noise

Title pretty much explains it. Every time i go over any bump the rear rattle like something is rolling around. I removed everything from my trunk and it still persist so I am guessing its the suspension. It is only happening on the rear passenger side. Any advice?

Not specific to Zeal but some coilovers need quite a bit of preload on the springs to stop them from rattling. Check your spring preload and also check if the owners manual has any notes on setting up the preload.

^ mine is coming from the "rear" not the front. Lifted it up today and everything was on tight, (collar too). I removed the trunk pieces and the nuts were also tight on. Seems nothing is loose.

@skyline250gt: What is the preload? I bought this car with the Zeals on them so I do not have the manual. But it is 6 way adjustable and the front and rear are both at 3

Please be aware that pillowball bearings and solid mounts create a metal-on-metal contact so NVH will increase compared to OEM style suspension. It can also exacerbate existing noises that were masked by OEM suspension. However, if the coilovers are unusually loud, there may be a few reasons why your coilovers "clunk." The most common problem is the top locking nut is not torqued properly. The torque spec for the top locking nut is 55 ft/lbs for inverted type and 35 ft/lbs for non-inverted type. An impact gun on the low impact setting can be used for the inverted type damper only, otherwise hold the shaft in place so it does not rotate while torquing the top nut. Please make sure the shaft is protected so it does not become scratched.
from the Stance website...same should apply here

possible end links????????? slight rattler turns worse as it travels through the car. or the hole in the lower strut body where the bolt goes through may be too big and even tho tight could slide and cause a knock or rattler as the stut boody hits teh thru bolt. mine was the end links. the smallest knock, rattel or sound is amplified once it travels through the frame of the car.

My comments are for a true coilover and not the ones where the spring and damper are seperate. I found a couple of pics of the Zeal units on the internet and they appear to be a true coilover.

The should be three adjusting rings on the coilover, two directly under the spring and one lower down. The lower one is for changing the ride height. The upper two, the top one is for setting spring preload and the ring directly under it is a locking ring. When you loosen the locking ring and turn the top ring so it moves up, it compresses the spring and gives it a preload.

Sometimes when there is insufficient preload the spring can move around in its seat as the damper extends fully. Preload keeps the spring snug in its seat. It will also put pressure on the top hat and other pieces the spring is pushing on and in some cases can stop any rattling coming from the top of the coilover unit.

Hope that makes sense. If you're going to try this make sure you count how many times you turn the adjusting rings so that if it doesnt work you can put it back to the way it was before. Also count the number of threads between the top two rings and lower ring and measure this distance as well, so you can put it back to the way it was. More spring preload will make the ride harder.
