Yo M302,
Running 20s like so:
Rear - 20 x 9.5s with 275/30ZR20s
Front - 20 x 8.5s with 245/35ZR20s
.......all of which I - one day - plan to be running on an M3, my damn self.
In fact, my whole inspiration for that setup was a darker gray M3 - same generation as yours - that I saw on a S. Florida street a few years back.
Black wheels, huge lip, with a nice tasteful drop.
Gotta have it!!
Later, dude.
He gone!

Dude, I can relate totally. Hell, I might love your Bimmer more than you do.
Okaaaaaaaaay. I’m full of it, but I’ve had an M3 on my mind for, uh, a long time.
And while the 3-series version is preferred, how ‘bout that soon to come 1-series M?
Very tempting, and a legit possibility for me – it’s #2 on my list, just before a 335is - especially with its brand new sticker at about $12-15K less.
Not to mention, no disrespect to the current 4.0 liter, but that inline six is hard to beat (2.5, 3.0, 3.2, whatever iteration, even without the turbos).
Neighbor of mine just got a 330ci - your generation, of course; he marvels at its speed & upper RPM sweetness. Punk a-- needs to let me drive it, 'cause I told 'im he could run my M3 whenever I get it. I think I'll remind him in the near future. Yeah.
Anyway, that inline-6 is not nearly as rough around the edges as our Nissan VQ35 when it gets to upper rev ranges to quickly or abruptly, although running my 5AT in manual mode seems so solve that problem for me.
(It really shoots forward at around 4500-5000 rpm, especially in 3rd gear at moderate-high speed, or 30-60 or 70 mph, well before redline, just ‘fore I shift to 4th gear. Pretty much the same in 2nd gear, but at much lower speeds and often when underway a bit - but I digress. More on our G35 thuggishness later.)
After all, Bavarian MOTOR Works is an engine company by definition, also with – from where I’m sitting – the best chassis/suspension tuning balance in the business. If not BMW, who? - is what I ask the critics.
Of course, I’d first have to search for a nice, CPO, V8 M3, but that’s what all smart car guys would probably do. Might be a steal out there - never know.
Don’t ask me who, in their right mind, would give up such a Formula 1-like tuned beast of hi-revver; that’s a whole nother show, as the saying goes. Whomever just needs to not run it too hard, keep the mileage low, and give it up so I can buy it.
Speaking of, didn’t used to much care for black on black (body-wheel) setups and wondered whether I could handle a red body (partly due to my occasional hi-speed hooliganism that would likely attract too much radar gun attention).
You and a few other cats have changed my mind.
TRANSLATION: With the proper wheels (especially black, chrome lip) I have never seen a red 3-series I didn’t like - coupe or sedan. On the other hand, never seen a red Benz of any kind that I’ve liked. Even an SL coupe. Yuck.
Far as money & mods go, it’s like tattoos. Always a matter of time & money, at least for the “regular Joes” of the world – like us, I suspect.
I’ve spent 70+ hours getting inked (never saw a tattoo sleeve I didn’t like either, so I got two); now it’s time to move on to the car mods, exclusively. Tokico HP Blues & a Seibon Hood are my next considerations.
Now, back to the so-called “G” that we both love. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 1000 times: It’s a glorified, dressed up, gussied up, 2+2 Nissan 350 or 370Z. No more, no less.
It will never quite be a 3-series, and I say it’s folly to think it ever will be, no matter how many Car & Driver comparos it wins.
Arguably, that’s why we love it. A dressed up thug. Try this:
BMW 3 = Michael Jordan
Infiniti G = Charles Barkley (at a formal event)
Both hall-of-fame ballers with no true, glaring weaknesses in their games.
However, they are who they are in terms of personality.
One will always be a little more street, a little “hood” or ghetto, that will cuss you out – and/or throw you thru a plate glass window - in a heartbeat. I wonder which one that would be??
The other noticeably more refined, and far less likely to offend.
Well, don’t wanna offend, at least without anyone noticing?? Get the 3.
Don’t give a damn? Get the G.
Like you, I don’t think I need to choose. And I ain’t; gimme a couple/few years. All part of my plan.
And on that note, I’m gone. Didn’t mean to talk you to death, homie, but this is important car guy sh--.
