Ridiculously annoying squeaky brakes

I have a strange issue that I was hoping someone could help me with. I only hear the squeak when slowly braking, such as creeping up to a red light or stop sign. If I depress the brake hard there is no squeak. The sound is like chalk squealing against a blackboard and it's driving me insane.

I had my brakes checked, the mechanic said the pads were fine. He said the alignment was off, that's why they are squeaking, and that he couldn't fix it and it was just the way the car was. I do not accept this as an answer, there has to be something to do to stop that noise.

Any ideas as to how to fix it and how much it might cost? Thanks!

same exact thing with my car... had them checked and they said the brakes are fine and it's just brake dust on the rotors. Really, brake dust for over 2 weeks now? Its only when lightly pressing the brake, as soon as I give it some decent pressure I get no sound. Very annoying.

I doubt if what you're hearing is dust build up, but have you tried cleaning the calipers/rotors? Often the noise brakes make is caused by not applying the goop to the outside area of the pads where it hits the calipers. There's also a bed in process that everyone should use when they get new pads that eliminates noise....SEARCH!
