broken stud holding strut

ok the titles kind of hard to make sense of but i recently installed some tien basic coilovers on my car and on the rear strut one of the upper studs (not connected to the strut) snapped and now on the rear its making a loud banging noise almost all the time, i figure its that broken stud but the problem is i can't get to it, i took out the trunk lining and i can't get to it if anyone knows what/where im talking about can you give me some advice ? its the stud that holds the strut on on the upper part

You will need to weld a new stud in place.

There is no opening to that cavity with that welded in bolt. There are a few ways to fix it, but if you aren't mechanically inclined and don't have the tools it is better to take it in to a shop to get fixed. There is a thread on my 350z that had a lot of good ideas to fix this problem, but again unless you have the tools and skills just take it in.

thanks for all the info !! what im really concerned about, is can i drive with that stud missing until i take it into the mechanic ? (latest would be wednesday) im worried that since the nut is missing and not putting any pressure down that the other stud is taking all the pressure and might break? not too sure but i havent been pushing the car too hard due to this, i just want to make sure there isnt going to be any permenant damage, heres a pic. thanks for telling me about the my 350 thread i looked it up and found it but it seems like most of those guys just did what they could, do you think a shop would be able to fix it?

You may break the other stud if you keep driving it without the other.

If I were you, I'd spot weld the mount to the shock tower. Every time you change shocks, which I don't suppose you do that very often, you would lightly grind the weld away to remove the mount.

DO NOT DRIVE your car in this condition. You run the risk of the remaining bolt breaking and causing a serious accident.

Get it fixed immediately.
