Akebono question

The pads on my akebono set up is not reaching the center of the rotor and I noticed this on other people's setup where it is lighter in the center which means the pad is not reaching there... but I can't figure out how to get the rust out since the pad does not touch that area...

rust is building up because water comes in contact when I wash my car... what is there to do about it?

they arent supposed to touch that close
what i did with mine were paint them with high temperature paint and go over them with high temp clear i also painted my slots and holes too using q tips
and used sandpaper to remove excess paint on the surface
youd have to bake in between coats for about 25 min at 400 and wait for them to cool off

^^ did u paint the whole thing, or just the area that would be exposed (aka the area that would have the rust build-up).

wht high temp paint did u use.?

BTW wouldnt the excessive paint come off, wen the pads are in contact the rotor, i would imagine, it would slip a little initially, but wouldn't this be a good process of removing the excessive paint, rather than sanding away the paint..?

just curious...

I use vht High temp paint
You can get it at oreillys or any other auto store
Yeah, I wasnt really thinking when I did the slots and holes and then I realized I wasted my time and that the pads would wipe it off that's why the circle isn't so perfect ha

Yeah i will doing the same. BTW r u using any SS lines, i cant decide which 1 to get Goodridge, stoptech, Megan or Techna-Fit.

Any suggestions...?
It seems stoptechs include "a Clear Abrasion Resistant Cover" coating on the SS braids, but i cant seem to find any info on whether the goodridges have them.

I will be spraying mine with high temp paint but why do you need to bake them in between coats? Wouldnt it be ok to let them dry naturally between coats?

Rotors get hotter than your exhaust. Especially during tracking.

Baking them seals the paint into the rotor. Also VHT paint contains ceramic particulates which require high heat to activate and properly settle.

The curing process will depend on the type of paint you used. Very high temp paint will almost always require some type of baking process. Semi-high temp paint (more than adequate for street use) will cure without added heat, and will finish off after just a few spirited braking sessions.

Kinda of an late answer to your question, but for those who are also curious about this process, I think your talking about getting the rotors zinc coated.

I thought I read somewhere that this is expensive to get done and can only be done imediately after rotors are machine. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Just buy the Stoptech rotors they come painted or powder-coated I'm not sure but the black doesn't fade.
