SSR SP3 3 Piece Wheels and Tanabe Sway Bars Review
SSR SP3 3 Piece Wheels and Tanabe Sway Bars Review
Hi everyone, this is the first time I am writing a review on anything and the only reason I am doing it is because I am overall very impressed with SSR wheels and Tanabe (same company). I am going to try to make this short as possible so people will actually read it
First let me talk about the wheels. Looks is a personal preference so you can make your own judgment. This is my third set of wheels on this car and personally I was looking for something that was lighter than my 20” wheels so I could take it to the track but at the same time I didn’t want to sacrifice looks. I think I achieved my goals. These wheels are 19” but with a step lip, saving significant weight.
Specs are 19x9.5 +10 front and 19x10.5 +18. Tires are Bridgestone RE-11 255/35/19 and 285/35/19 (btw these are the best tires I have ever tried). SSR wheels truly stand behind their exceptional reputation. The wheels came packaged perfectly and securely. Every box was labeled with the contents making the caps, hub rings and valve stems easy to locate. Speaking of contents, SSR offers a number of different styles of wheel caps and valve stems to suit most everyone’s style.
Onto the sway bars. I like to take my car autocrossing and I needed something to help our heavy car handle better. I already have lowering springs and I thought coilovers would be the next best thing to purchase but then people at the autocross events suggested sway bars. I purchased front and rear Tanabe sway bars. I am not going to talk about material, size etc. There are plenty of topics on the forum about that. I am only going to talk about what I felt. To tell you the truth, after I got the sway bars installed I told myself that I am not going to drive the car and harder than normal nor mentally just think it handles better.
So for the next week I drove normally (which is kind off aggressive in turns) and all I can say is WOW. Sway bars made a bigger difference than the wider wheels, lowering springs or tires ever made. The best part is that the sway bars are relatively inexpensive but make a huge difference in handling. Turn-in was super responsive, the back end wouldn’t give out and overall the car felt really planted. Without the sway bars my car was fighting really hard in turns at the autocross events but with the sway bars the car just did what I wanted it to do. I received good advice from someone who basically said that your driving skills should be beyond the limit of your car before you upgrade performance parts. These sways helped so much that I don’t have a need for any more suspension upgrades until I become a better driver.
Sorry about the review becoming slightly long but I really wanted to share with the community my review so they can make an informed decision on what there next upgrade will be. Thank you
(I am in no way shape or form a photographer so please excuse the low quality pictures. The wheels look waaayyy better in person.)
