is it springs or sways? why is the 2006 30% stiffer than the 2005?
is it springs or sways? why is the 2006 30% stiffer than the 2005?
Hi all.
I'm in the process of improving the ride of my 2005 g35 sedan. I'm ordering a new front sway bar. I may change the front & rear springs after that (if the improvement is not yet to my liking).
The front sways from Hotchkis would indicate the 2006 is 25-30% stiffer than the 2005.
Does the 2006 have stiffer springs and the same sway bars ? OR
stiffer sway bars and the same sways OR
stiffer springs & sways ?
thanks

The spring rates and sway bars for the 6mt sedan are the same for each year. They are the same rate as the coupes that did not come with the 19" wheels, but the springs on the coupe are about .5" shorter. The coupes that came with 19" wheels had the same front spring rate, but 33% stiffer rear springs.
thanks for the reply. There must be a difference in the 2005-2006 front spring or sway bar (or both). Here's the info from Hotchkis regarding their front sway bars. Notice how they show a different result for the 2005 & 2006 for each hole (on the same sway bar)...
350Z & 03- 05 G35 Front
Hole 1 = 1525 lbs/in (22% Stiffer than stock)
Hole 2 = 1845 lbs/in (48% Stiffer than stock)
Hole 3 = 2270 lbs/in (82% Stiffer than stock)
Hole 4 = 2855 lbs/in (129% Stiffer than stock)
06 G35 Front
Hole 1 = 1525 lbs/in (5% Softer than stock)
Hole 2 = 1845 lbs/in (15% Stiffer than stock)
Hole 3 = 2270 lbs/in (42% Stiffer than stock)
Hole 4 = 2855 lbs/in (78% Stiffer than stock)
thx

The spring rates are the same for 05-06 sedans. I checked infinitipartsusa.com and they do show different sedan sway bar parts between 05 and 06:
2006
Stabilizer bar, g35, coupe 05-07 $274.37
Stabilizer bar, g35, sedan, 2wd, w/o sport 2006 $261.42
Stabilizer bar, g35, sedan, 2wd, w/sport 2006 $274.37
Stabilizer bar, g35, sedan, awd 05-06 $290.78
2005
Stabilizer bar, g35, coupe 05-07 $274.37
Stabilizer bar, g35, sedan, 2wd 2005 $261.42
Stabilizer bar, g35, sedan, awd 05-06 $290.78
Since the MSRP price is the same, it makes me think they decided to give the 06 sedans with the sport suspension the coupe's front sway bar. I don't think there is a part number on the sway bar, but if someone can find one on their 05 sway bar, I'll dust off my 06 sway bar that is sitting in the attic. Someone with access to part numbers could also see if they match, but the online ordering places don't like to give out that info.
The Hotchkis numbers would make more sense if they specified if it was for the sedan or coupe. According to infinitipartsusa all 05-07 coupes have the same front sway bar.
