Rear caliper bolt (slide pin)
Rear caliper bolt (slide pin)
This is more of a rant about dealer parts departments than anything else but it may be helpful to someone:
As many may know the bottom bolt (labeled "slide pin" by Nissan) on the rear caliper of our cars (sedans, not sure of coupes) have a reinforcement bar that is part of the rear suspension that makes access to it difficult. The only option is to use a open or closed end wrench.
It just so happens that the head of the slider pin in my car is stripped (worn), Any 14" removal tool placed on it just spins. Not the end of the world but a pain! Of course, once it is removed I will need a replacement slide pin.
I just so happened to drop my car off today at the dealer to correct a problem with a warranty repair.I asked the parts department for the item I needed. Long story short... I was told the slider pin was only sold with the caliper!
They were interested in pricing me a replacement caliper, however. I declined and wished them a nice day.
As it turns out, the parts "specialist" gave me a print out of the rear brake assembly, which had a partial part number (or seemed to be a part number). When I arrived at my office I googled "Nissan 44139" (the partial part number). I got a few hits from a few on-line dealer Nissan parts catalogs. Thanks to these sources I was able to find the slide pin, which is sold separately!
It is no surprise dealers get such a bad rap! I know it is not all but a lot just don't care or make the effort. I know sales volume is important but that can't always be the bottom line.
Moral of the story: dealers aren't always correct. Use all your sources to gather info if you are doubtful!
/End rant.

That's a shame that you experienced that, and I agree, luckily here at Grubbs, if you ask for an item and it's available seperately, we aren't going to sell you what you dont want.... Slide Pin part # is
44140-JA01A for those looking for it,
44140-JA01A for those looking for it,
I went through something similar. I got an aftermarket pin as the dealer i contacted told me the same. To remove the pin, my mechanic heated it up and then used these pliers which I can't think the proper name for. This did melt the rubber cover that goes over the pin, so a replacement may be necessary.
Lastly, when you do get the pin loose, you won't be able to remove it unless you raise the suspension from the bottom. You'll know what I mean once you get to that point.

Glad I saw this in time before I ordered the pin! I had not thought of the dust shield but it makes sense that if the pin is heated, the rubber would melt. Thanks for the heads up!
After talking with you bro, it's apparent the dealer probably thought you wanted the item the pin slides into, which is not available..... still pretty easy to clear that up when your here in front of someone.... pretty sad.... soon as the pins come in, they'll be headed your way, thanks for the compliment! I appreciate all the guys on here go through us here at Grubbs!

Yeah he probably used vice grips, which is how I intend on getting the pin on my car removed.

My dealer told me "the pin is not sold separate from the caliper...would you like me to quote you a caliper?"
I am not giving them any credit because they don't deserve it!
iIve had the same experience when I tried to order a set of the aluminum brake pedals from the 350z at the dealership. I just chocked it up the the parts guy being an idiot, which I've since confirmed with various other dealings with them.
