Hey Guys, this might be a long explanation but I'm running out of ideas at this point.

I am currently running aftermarket shocks and Tein 350Z H-tech springs. I have Stillen Sways w/ SPL front end links, SPC front camber kit. GT SPEC FSTB, lower tie brace...

So, it all started when I was getting some cupping on the inside of my tires. I figured its probably just the alignment. Got an alignment and flipped my tires as they had a lot of meat and I didnt want to just replace right away. After the alignment, started cupping on the (new) inside edge again. This is when I figured I would get aftermarket A-Arms. I changed from OEM to SPC a-arms. At this time I also decided to swap OEM front end links to SPL. I had to re-tighten the endlinks a few times as they loosened up and caused clunking. Used re loctite and they didnt loosen up again.

I started getting a clunking sound again - so I checked the enlinks, no problems - still nice and tight. Replaced lower ball joints on the knuckle. Still clunking.

In the last few months I have now replaced:
Both front wheel bearings
Endlinks (SPL)
Upper Control Arms (SPC)
Lower Ball joints (the only brand I found available)
Compression rod bushings (Whiteline poly)

The problem is I'm still getting a noise. At initial acceleration it sounds like a spring/shock squeaking/compressing. I removed and inspected then reinstalled. The clunking sound I get is mostly noticed when turning & at an incline but sometimes is noticed on flat ground while turning at slow speeds.

Next thing I am going to try and check is the Front sway bar bushings.

Wondering if this could be a tie-rod issue though? Any other thoughts/suggestions?

I had a similar issue but it was caused by my Kinetix A-Arms rubbing on the inner fender. And my lower control arm bushings were bad as well made some room with a hammer on the inner fender and replaced the bushing with energy polyurethanes. No more sounds. Hope this helps.

 

How about lower control arm bushings? I replaced those the other day and car rides A LOT smoother. I notice it mostly when I'm engine braking and then speeding up again. As well as not feeling a "springing" noise while going over a series of cracks.

I recently replaced a whole compression rod after realizing the ball joint end of it was busted. There was a popping and clunking noise going over bumps and while turning.

 

changed wheel hubs...then end links....then a-arms...then shock mounts...then compression rod bushings...then lower ball joint..

LCA bushings have been whiteline for a while...now compression rods are too.

I'm gonna check the sway bar bushings - could be they have been destroyed, not banking on it but ya never know. I'll post back after. Gonna start using WD-40 to try to narrow down the problem.

 

I ordered sway bar bushings for front and rear. Hopefully I will be able to install them this week when they arrive.

 

I had lower control arm bushing and I had the inner tie rods replaced, not the outer. I had no cranking issues prior. So I don't think replacing those bushing and tie rods(inner) will help you with your issue. Idk what the story is on the outers.

 

I have this same problem I think.. Just replaced lower ball joints and the noise is still there. I've replaced endlinks, sways, compression rod bushing, lower control arm bushing, I'm on oem suspension and a arms. I have no idea where the sound is coming from. It's a werid squishy clunk sound but I when only hear when weight shifts. If I tap the breaks it makes it and while turning at low speeds.

 

Turning at very low speeds also can cause the sound. I think it might be my tie rods maybe? I inspected them today and there's definitely some play in them. I found a video on YouTube showing what I mean.

I can do this on both sides of the car though, but Im pretty sure it's only the drivers side that makes the sound...

 

Replace that, check every other suspension part, and get an alignment!!

 

Yeah I'm going to.. Sucks though because I just went and got alignment after I replaced the lower ball joints

 

You might want to consider new lower control arm bushings before your next alignment too.

I think I figured out my noise!!!

I reinstalled my upper control arms (a arms) - the suspension wasn't fully compressed when tightening the side bolts that hold the arm in place so it was adjusting itself and creaking and popping.

If you change your upper control arms make sure that you jack up the suspension to full load before tightening the bolts on the side.

For that matter....do the same thing if you have removed your upper control arm for any reason
