Need advice about shock replacement.

Hi everyone, as the title reads, I need a bit of advice. I took my car in to have the shocks/struts replaced and came away with a hard lesson. The repair shop replaced my front struts but did not replace the rears because they said the bolt was seized up in the left rear knuckle/spindle. Unfortunately, I live in New Jersey where everything is overpriced and was told I need to replace the knuckle at a price of $500 for the part alone. I was told it was a dealer only part. Now, I'm riding around with new front struts and original rears. Is there a way to have this fixed without it costing so much? How long can I ride like this before damage occurs, if any? Please help. I'm starting to get frustrated with the car seeing as I've had to replace the brakes three times in about as many years due to squealing and wear.
