Question question on rear rotors and shudderring.

if one of my rear stock rotors have slight rust and brand new brake pads on them replaced two month ago, can i experience light shuddering at high speed?

front rotors and pads are fine. new tires and alignment done 2 months back.

i always thought shuddering is experience when you have warped front rotors am i incorrect?

if i do replace my rear rotors should i replace my pads again? or can i use the existing ones? since they were replaced 2 months back?

thx again guys

If the rear rotors are in question, get them resurface. If it's warped, the shop should be able to tell when they turn it.

If you end up getting new rotors, check the pads for cracks. If no crack, then just smooth out the pads with sand paper. If you're lazy like me, place the pad face down on the sidewalk and while applying pressure, slide them back n forth a few times.

Is the "light shuddering" occurring when you're just driving? Or braking? If you're shuddering without applying the brake, it's your wheel balance, most likely (if you got new tires, maybe they didn't balance well, or one/some of the counter-weights fell off). And shuddering in the steering wheel when applying the brake is a front rotor issue, again, most likely. If the whole car shakes when you brake, then rear brakes are in question.

Vibration without you're applying the brake pedal is a balance issue, go back to your tire store. If the vibration only occurs when applying the brake you have a rotor warped which can be resurfaced. And then there's the possibility you have caliper failure....Gary

wow, did not even realize someone posted. Got my new rotors in the mail today

Ok, so light shuddering occurs when i am applying brakes at high speed only. My rear rotors have rust on the surface.

So question is should i replace the rotors? or is the culprit the front rotors? my front rotors and pads were replaced around 10k miles or so..

thx

Again, do you feel the shuddering in the steering wheel? Or does the whole car vibrate? If you feel it on the steering wheel, most likely it's the front rotors. As far as the rust, how bad is it, are you talking about on the face of the rotors? Usually, the rust gets rubbed off after you apply the brakes a few times with normal driving. I highly doubt that's the cause of the shuddering. And depends on your driving habits, road conditions, and, of course, quality of material, when it comes to the longevity of brake parts. 10k seems short, but I wouldn't say it's impossible to go bad in 10k.

i do not feel shuddering at the steering wheel, i only felt it when i am braking from 40-30 and actual shuddering around 25 mph, no steering wheel shaking.

Update.

Yesterday i replaced my rear rotors.

WHAT A PITA>>>>

all the bolts came off but the driver side rotor was a PITA to come off, after hammering, cursing, putting some WD40, and more hammering it came off.

Here is something i noticed if someone can please explain. my passenger side rotor went on fine. the driver side rotor would got half way and get stuck, i had to use the lug nut to screw in the rotor completely.

any ideas?

i have noticed the vibration/shuddering during braking is almost all gone... total rear rotor job took me 2.5 hours because of the dam rotors stuck
