Smoother ride needed
Smoother ride needed
I traded in my BMW 3 series for a 2006 G35 sedan. No more monthly trips to the dealer for $300. fixes, but ride is no where as smooth as the 3.
In particular, the rear suspension is not as sophisticated, and "bounces" around a lot more.
I am going to be taking a 6,000 mile road trip, and am looking to change the schocks
before leaving. Comfort takes priority over handling.
Anybody have suggestions for a smoother, more compliant ride?

nah nah just messing with ya.
Your best choice are OEM shocks or Tokico HP (which are almost same) OEM shocks are made by Tokico. HP series are a bit of an upgrade over OEM shocks, but provide just as enough comfort.
Or you can go with Tokoco D specs. Those are adjustable and allow you to play with stiffness levels.

New tires.
New struts.
I'm pretty sure, if I remember reading correctly, that the Bimmers use progressive springs from the factory, while the G has linear springs, which is why you get a bit more of a road feel from the G.
What year 3 series did you have? My buddy has a 2010 335, and my G coupe on Tein S.Techs rides more comfortably than his 3 series does...

Just remember though that everyone's opinion on what is smooth and what is not is going to differ. I'd check out your shocks to see if they're blown or need to be replaced.
